I just have a quick question. In the SM codex and How to Paint SM book, the Raven Guard are featured with red shoulder trim. However, in Lexicanum, it says:
"The right shoulder guard trim denotes the type of Space Marine. Green is for tactical squads, red is for assault squads and yellow is for devastators."
But then why does every marine have red trim in the books?
That never sat right with me either. Since each Company of the Raven Guard is effectively independent from the others they'd probably have a unique Company-only colour round the trim.
Yeah, I'm thinking the trim color represents the compnay color rather than the kind of squad they are. That's why all of the marines had red ones in the books. They're probably from the 3rd company as the Codex states red is the 3rd company color. I'd be interested in seeing someone paint another company of Raven Guard.
According to Index Astartes IV the shoulderpad rims are post heresey troop type markings.
The coloured rim is on the right shoulder of the marine. The left is left black with the white raven mark.
The colours are as follow:
Green = Tactical Squad
Red = Assault Squad
Yellow = Devastator Squad
Black = Veteran
(So yea the markings in the marine codex are wrong.)
The only sad thing is that these books are no longer published/printed =(
But i hope this information helps a litle bit.
I see. Woe to those that painted their Raven Guard like the pictures in the Codex!
GW should have made sure their minis fitted with the Index Astartes.
