what are the advantages of taking shotguns for scouts over a bolt pistol and ccw?
The only model I see a advantage for is a scout sergeant with a power fist. He can't use the pistol's close combat attack so the shotgun helps make up for the lost attack if you get the charge.
Other then that you end up with a net loss of one dice per model in every round of close combat except the turn you get to fire before charging.
as Wraith said, they are best used to thin out the target.
Total number of hits are the same between a shotty scout that fires then assaults, and a BP/CCW fires and then assaults. The BP gets to ignore some armour where the shotty doesnt, but you get a chance to kill more models with a shotty before getting in a position where the scouts take damage.
Swings and roundabouts matey. I prefer to mix and match, though I can see the pro's and con's of both loadouts...
I take shotguns on my scouts for the 2 shots and i have a bit of an obsession with shotguns, they are cool. i keep my sarg. with a BP\CC so he can give me 1 extra attack (i know it doesnt make alot of difference +1?????) BP have better AP
I've been thinking of grabbing some shotty scouts just for the sheer awesomeness of a driveby land speeder storm attack. I know bolter would be better but at least with the shotty if I decide to jump out and assault I can.
