Yesterday I tried out this Company Command Squad;
4 Plasma Guns
Mounted in Chimera with HB and ML
It seemed to work rather effectively against a Nid list I was playing. I managed to dish out a total of 8 rapid fire hits with the plasma guns (due to the Bring It Down! order) on a Hive Tyrant, which pretty much killed it hard. The re-rolls should ensure that not too many veterans will die from overheating (not exactly sure on this - correct me here)
Vox is there for the re-roll of orders (I think... pls correct me if im wrong) The ideal tactic with this suqad is to keep the CCS chimera behind other tanks or cover and wait for a counter attack opportunity against the big nasty MC's heading towards your lines.
How does everyone think about this set up? Is it too expensive or maybe Vet Squads should do the same job?
Mounted + Order = Ilegal
IG codex, page 29, box "Imperial Guard Orders", second column, first paragraph, first and second line.
"Orders cannot be issued to squads that are embarqued in a transport,"
Is not logic from any point of view, but that is how GW made the rule.
"The only valid test is combat; the only valid result is victory"
Ardak Kumerian, Klingon Admiral.
Crap! Didnt read that particular rule then...
Still. 8 Rapid Fired Plasma where you need it cant exactly be a bad thing, can it?
Or maybe disembark to make the order valid (but risk getting shot up and charged the next turn) and turn your squad into a deadly but fragile death bomb.
I figure it's a waste of all that BS4 if you just sit back and hide this unit, so yeah, chimera taxi is a good way to go. My command squad has a standard bearer and 3 plasmas in a chimera in my current army list.
"Pickles, the drummer, doodily doo. (Ding-dong, doodily, doodily, doo.)"
Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
Thanks for the info CadaverJunkie,
I'll probably eschew the vox to go 4 plasma then. I guess overheating is a bit of an issue though - which is why I treat this unit as a suicide squad.
You could look into 3 plasma and a medic to keep them alive. It's a great unit for messing up MCs and Terminators, if a bit expensive.

For the same price you can grab a LRDemolisher.
Personally I like Melta CCS in a chimera, but 8 PG shots would hurt something. However, I think LR Exec are a better plasma platform.

An officer can order his own squad, he can issue orders to squads if he's embarked in a transport, but he can't order his own squad when its embarked in a Chimera? Is that not the most inane thing ever?
And I'd forego the medic in the heavy-plas squad. Medics are so absurdly overpriced that they should basically never be used. I'd rather buy two more plasma guns than the medic to give me FNP for when my guns overheat. Plus realistically I wouldn't expect such squads to get to fire too many times, so making the guardsmen slightly more survivable is a bit of a moot point.

Personally I think LRD are more flexible than LRBT (S10 ap2 kills just about anything), but if you already have your heavy slots filled and are looking for some ap2 goodness, than Plasma death CCS is a solid option.
Don't waste your time with a medic, you guys wont be living long enough, and you'll be better off with a 4th PG.
