When fielding Vulkan, there are obviously plenty of different options of what to include in the army to best utilise his Chapter tactics.
During the actual battle however, who does he run with? How do you use him?
In my last game, he drove in a Razorback along with 5 Sternguard (2 heavy Flamers and 3 Combis) and it really worked well.
What are some of the other ideas out there and how has it fared?
Sternguard are good, but that relic-blade and cloak give him some serious punch in CC.
I'd possibly tag him onto a Vanguard or Assault squad without jump packs in a rhino for bodies that are good in CC.
Another option would be CC-Termies jumping out of a LR.
Essentially, any unit that would get him in CC, or let him toast them if he's out of range!
Your best bet is probably with a squad of TH/SS Terminators with a Land Raider or Vanguard as Cleanrabbit suggested. When all else fails you could attach him to a Combat squad and go head hunting with him. I find Assault squads more effective with their jump packs with a Chaplain attached rather than without and with Vulkan.
Sternguard are great but I would probably use them more as a mobile fire base which doesn't suit Vulkan well. However, if it worked well for you I'd say run with it.

Vulkan in a small assault squad with flamer, pfist, in a razorback just sounds like fun to me. Its a good speartip tactic, you could go straight at IG command squads.
how do you get heavy flamers with sternguard?!
"All of the tainted shall fall before me".
Heavy flamers are an upgrade to the unit. They can be easily converted using Terminator heavy flamers.
Hmm but would that be jumping them into a razorback bought for another unit? As assault squads can't have razors =\Vulkan in a small assault squad with flamer, pfist, in a razorback just sounds like fun to me. Its a good speartip tactic, you could go straight at IG command squads.

I have used Vulkan leading a unit of 5 TH|SS Termines and the results for the couple of games i have played did not meet expectations. Basically i was stuck in with a unit of 6 Nobz with closecombat weapons, and vulkan would baby take a wound off one or two of them and then when the termies struck they killed the nobs with the fewest wounds, it was very ineffecient in my mind and i still had to deal with the Ork Warboss!
