Im currently composing a list for a mechanised army.
I was wondering what the best equipment choices etc would be good
The one that i was planning on using goes as follows:
I plan on having 5 squads of vets in total
(3 with lascannon and 2 with missle launchers)
vox (thought that might come in handy for command orders as il be relying on the lascannon vets to take care of armour quickly, missle will allow for alittle multitasking and to mop up after my chimeras and russes have had a go)
grenadier-to increase surviabilty once out of chimera and on objectives or laying down fire
chimera- tad obvious that lol
cost will be around 185 and 205
i was thinking about maybe dropping one of the missle teams and equiping that unit with the demo special ability and use them as 100% tank hunters.
Any help much appreciated
Drop the vox's if everyones in chimeras - you can give commands out, but not into chimeras.
I've never tried this, but you might want to have some squads with 3x melta to stay mounted and do drivebys and other squads with voxes, cammo cloaks, and heavy weapons to be rushed up and dropped off into cover.
I highly suggest Vets with 3 meltaguns, and chimeras with hull heavy flamers. 155 points of pure win.
Drop the grenadiers. They are too expensive. For five squads, that's 150pts. Basically you could get another vet squad+chimera for that price, or you could get a valk/vend and still have some change.
I typicaly field only one type of mobile vet units:
Sergeant with a power weapon with 9 Grenadier vets armed with shotguns, flamer and 2 metaguns. Mounted in a chimera. (135 + chimera)
The unit does everything well, anti infantry, anti meq, anti armor and can even hold their own in CC. 4+ realy helps them in my opinion, especialy when they are close to the enemy.
My personal favoured so far would be :
Vets, Power Fist, shotguns, Flamer, 2x meltaguns, Chimera mounted. = 165 points
Flamer becomes heavy if there's change at the end of my list, add demolitions if desired.
This lot drive forwards and grab objectives / assault stuff.
Vets, Power Fist, Lasguns, 3x Plasma gun, Lascannon, chimera = 205 points
add plasma pistol if yo want to take the mickey out of marines.
This lot can just devastate a marine squad up close, or shoot at anything desired.
The two consistant things in all my vet squads are as follows:
1) Power Fist. It's so cheap nowdays, you don't have to pay for a vet sgnt to have access to it, and you have 8/9 ablative wounds until the sgnt and he's likely to go last with I 3 anyway. Make kim kill marines on a 2+ with no saves, or threaten vehicles.
2) chimera. It's so cheap, and you have 5 fire points - why be outside so you can be charged / all those nasty things? You fire all your weapons, and if you don't move a vehicle you can still asault out of it. Oh, and it comes with some firepower and makes them mobile enough to grab objectives.
I had the choice of buying a valkerie or two chimeras recently. I chose chimeras for my army lists (Valks are very, very cool though, and it was close, and i have pangs of regret.)
