Do bikes assault 6" or 12"?
I looked in the rulebook
under the bike rules on p 53 it says, obviously, that they move 12" in the movement phase, but does not say anything about how far they assault.
under the assault rules on p 34 its says that all of the models in an assaulting unit make their assaulting move following the same rules as in the movement phase.
Bikes have an assault range of 6 inches. They are treated like infantry in this regard.

I forgot to mention - for this type of question, I'm usually looking for specific references (ie, page numbers)
I know that on p52, it says that jump infantry assault on foot like normal infantry (therefor overriding the rule on p34). However, that is under the jump infantry unit type entry. Bikes are a different unit type, and has its own entry on the unit type section. In the bike unit type entry, however, it simply says that bikes are not slowed by difficult terrain, but does not mention how far they assault, or that they assault on foot (like it says in the jump infantry section).
So, to strictly go by the rules as written in the book, it would appear that the bike unit type assaults 12", in accordance to the rule on p34 stating that all units move into assault following the same rules as in the movement phase
Not to sound completely skeptical here, but do you have a page number from the rulebook that specifies for the bike unit type to assault 6"?
Keep looking through the rule book. Its in there. Bikes assault 6". It never hurts to read the rule book again.
Space Wolves (Under Construction) | Circle of Orboros (Under Construction)
It does not specifically state it for bikes IIRC, as it says consider them as standard infantry EXCEPT for these situations - and assault move is not listed as an exception.
Pg 51 of the tiny rulebook - "Except for the rules detailed in this section for each unit type, these units follow the same rules as infantry".
Pg 53 ottr - "ASSAULT: Bike assault moves are not slowed down by difficult terrain. However, each model entering or moving through difficult terrain, or assaulting an enemy who is standing in difficult terrain or behind and obstacle must make a dangerous terrain test"
Nothing said about movement, so you only get 6" charge.
