I have decided to celebrate the new IG codex with a Death Korps investment. I noticed some modes fit naturally into the unittypes of the codex. In some cases though, there are voids.
Is there any way to represent all unit options with Krieg-like models? Is it betraying to the fluff to have a mix of respirator models and others? Specifically, Advisors, psykers, sentinel pilots...
Any ideas on what to use for conscripts? I'd ate to frkout big bucks for 50 pewtersteel legion models.
I wouldlove to hear what othes are using for their Krieg force.
I asked myself the same question as I was making my DCoK army some 4 years ago.
Personally, I bought a whole bunch of Steel Legion models for my troops.
I considered buying Tallern for the conscripts. This would show difference from the regular guardsmen and can be justified by the fact that conscripts can make do with a rag over their mouths before respirators would be issued to those that survive long enough.
... However, there was no benefit in paying for Tallern over Steel Legion models so I decided that green stuff rags on Cadians would suffice.
The next problem came with my Storm Troopers.
Because my whole army had some form of breathing aid, I had to make one for the Storm Trooper (Kasrkin) sergeant who would have been the only one in the army not wearing one.
In the end, I discovered that converting re breathers is not all that hard.
Oh, and keep in mind that DCoK dont wear their re breathers in all battle zones. So dont sweat it if none of them are wearing them, but IMO its all or nothing.
It's worth a krak!
The Cadian Command squad box comes with respirators that could aid in converting your models.
Advisors and psykers most likely won't be from Krieg themselves (they are trained by the Schola Progenium and then attached to the Imperial Guard) so it's OK for their equipment to look different. Similarly a Sentinel squadron might be attached from a different regiment fighting in the same warzone to explain their different looks.
Conscripts don't fit in with the Krieg fluff really (they have millions of proper guardsmen, why bother with Conscripts?) and Conscripts aren't as good as merged Infantry Platoons anyway so I wouldn't worry about them.
Thanks for the input guys... excellent comments.
Since this new codex, im seeing alot of posts where people want to do death korps of kreig and seeing alot of replies by people who have done death korps. My IG is a WW2 german based army, and now im wondering which would look cooler, Death Korps, Steel Legion, or Tallarn? Whats your opinions? Forgeworld has some cool Tallarn models, and Death Korps.

I'm building a pure FW DK IG army - u can follow my blog here hehe I have some pics on it - just finished 2 troops and waiting for the others to arrive.
I guess we're having the same idea cus i'm basing my IG army on the nazi's or jin ro type. the cheaper option would prolly be using Steel Legion - I though of that but I really wanted the jin ro style - just love the red eyes ...So I passed on Steel legions. On the other hand, I would also like to build Tallarn.. why? imaging building a squad of terrorist, give them all demolisions doctrain... that was be awesome and fun at the same time - though at the mean time I would only want to focus on finishing the DK army... its just too expensive if i did everything one shot -_-"
