I received my rhinos a couple of days ago.
The Painting has commenced.
I wanted the WH's people's feedback on this. I know that we have a painting forum, but I don't really care what all those SM players think.
Suggestions? Comments? I'd appreciate no "that sucks its terrible" comments. This is my first try at painting. I am not the best at it, but I do want my stuff to look good.
Do you think style is something you might see on a WH rhino? I kinda do. I also realize it needs another coat of paint.
anyway... There is also going to be one (same design) on the side door.
Have you been told to water your paints down yet?
It's one of the first pieces of advice that's dispensed when people ask about improving their painting. Adding a little bit of water somehow will make the paint go on smoother. Also thinner, so you may need more coats, but it generally improves the painting.
It certainly looks like a sisters' tank. I can totally see them using giant fleur de lys like you've done. I think many GW display models are painted like that as well, actually.
Also, although I know you said you don't want to post this in the Painting forums, may I suggest you pop on over there and do a search for 'painting black.' Actually, why don't I do it instead?
Painting Black 1
Painting Black 2
Painting Black 3
I don't really know how to paint black well, but other people have a better idea and some of their tips may help.
Then again you may already know this stuff. Hopefully I'm not wasting your time!
yeah that black is Krylon... from a can...
my second rhino wasn't off the sprus and it came out better after the spray paint... I just painted this one with the fleur first.
thanks for the tips. I will look into watering my stuff a little.
It's fine to start with the spray - I think Black just needs some highlighting, especially on a tank.
But I think I'm getting ahead of myself, as it seems you've only just started painting this tank. Highlights don't ever come first!
The new Cordite Grandite is a really nice highlight for Chaos black. It's not to harsh either and stops things looking to 'grey'
As for white. Atronomican grey is a decent starting point. mixing up with skull white untill your happy with the colour. As deadstar said adding a touch of water to your paints will help thin them down and remove any brushstrokes that you'd get with normal non watered paint.
That said, it's looking awesome mate. All it needs is the white made crisper (a few extra coats) and when thats done just go around with black to neaten up the edges. You can do that with a black pen if you don't fancy using a brush but it's best if you use some varnish when the inks dry to stop it smudging.
Post some pics up when its finish Are you going to be doing some script on there too?
