I was looking through the codex at units that produce a large shot volume at a low points cost and saw the double heavy bolter landspeeder option that I've never seen anyone use.
Has anyone used this configuration with any success? Or a squadron of three?
It costs under 200 points for a group of three and puts out (potentially) 18 heavy bolter shots a turn. The 36" range would let you hang back from most common infantry weapons. Opinions before I look for heavy bolters?
3 twin HB landspeeders 180 points
2 preds w/ 2 Hbs pntle SB and twin linked autocannon each 190 points
2 whirlwinds 170 points
7 devies w/ 4 heavy bolters 182 points
They're not necessarily the best choice for pure number of shots. They'll be shot down early because of pretty much remaining still to fire both heavy bolters.

Ordinarily, I'll use a pair of Dakka Predators over a double heavy bolter land speeder. Two heavy bolter sponsons and a turret autocannon make it a better option in my opinion. I use Land speeders more as a 'hunting' unit with a MM or MM/HF configuration.
I don't use them in squadrons. There's more of a chance of losing weapons or the Land speeders themselves if you get multiple glancing or penetrating hits, whereas, if they are individual units of one you stand the risk of only losing that one.

They feel somewhat fragile for gun-line work, and to get the most out of them that is what they would really be doing. They shine as high mobility point strike weapons with flamers or MMs.
You might want an obnoxious heavy machine somewhere spitting out rounds and soaking them up in return as it sits on a hardpoint. The Dakka Pred will give you that. Also like the idea of the twin Whirlwinds if you can hide them somewhere.
Wow, I guess it shows that I'm not a tournament player. I use a twin Hvy Bolter Speeder and a Hvy Bolter, Typhoon ML, as separate Fast Attack entries.
I have had much success with them, the HB tornado seems to out last the Typhoon, but that's probably because the other one is the bigger threat. And as fire support to a target unit, its devastating. If you send it alone it will get blown apart without doing much damage.
Its best use at 30"- 36" range as only dedicated anti-tank weaponry (generally speaking) will be able to reach it. (or another hvy bolter.) If I have another unit preparing to fire on a large target enemy group, this speeder adds the extra damage thining out the mob even more. With low numbers to return fire, they'll probably be concentrating on the close tactical squad and not worry about trying to fire on the distanced speeder.
As I have 2 other tanks on the board, I'm usually not worrying about long range weaponry targeting it. My other speeder does get shot at turn 2, usually right after 2 missles just took out a transport easily.
