I'm a despondent daemonthunter player, and i'm looking to put an IG parent list together that makes use of the grey knights, kasrkins, and assassins i have now. Questions i'm toying with:
1) Will players get bent out of shape if i use kasrkins as veterans -or- stromtroopers (i have all the meltas and plasma's for wysywig purpose)
2) Valkaries or chimera or mix? As an eldar player, i really like the idea of fast skimmers that drop troops and pie plates.
3) Is one Platoon too few? I may simply play veterans.
My list from what i own at present is something to the extent of:
=I= Lord and retinue
(need company command, probably kreed or straken)
Grey Knight terminators
(need to get me a psychic choir)
I have almost 30 kasrkins which can count as veterans, three plasma's and 3 melta's
power armor grey knights with incinerators
(do i need infantry platoons and heavy weapons?)
(need to buy tanks, probably LRBT with dual plasmas)
(thinking about valkarie x2)
Any feedback on how to put together a cost effective/ fun/ competitive army is much appreciated. I would like to avoid buying more than two more chimeras.
To my understanding, there is no difference between normal infantry guard and veteran guard as far as models go, yet. So, I'm sure you opponent would be very happy to see you use a different model to represent different squad types. Especially in large infantry armies. It just gets confusing otherwise. It might be strange if the karskins have hell guns instead of lasguns though, I defiantly would not care. However, it'd be nice if you picked them to be veterans OR storm troopers, not both in the same army.1) Will players get bent out of shape if i use kasrkins as veterans -or- stromtroopers (i have all the meltas and plasma's for wysywig purpose)
1) Not a problem
2) Whatever suits you, they're all solid builds.
3) You don't even need 1, in a mech list you can easily do without.
Lucky for you, IG mix very well with DH. A mech list with DH add-ons (GKTs in Valkyries, =][= Lord in a Chimera or Land Raider, and so on) is extremely potent.

Careful, here. Guardmen are a lot more fragile than Eldar; the Valkyries don't have those damage-control upgrades and the men don't last long unsupported. Besides, REAL pie plates come from Leman Russes. Take one for a test drive...the urge to fly a skimmer will pass quickly. As an eldar player, i really like the idea of fast skimmers that drop troops and pie plates.
Veteran-heavy is fine; in fact, it'll play almost exactly like your current DH army.Probably. Do you have fluff reasons for avoiding them? If not, then they will certainly be useful. Over-reliance on flamers and meltas is very risky, the more so because so many people are doing it. IG squads can also screen for your Grey Knights while simultaneously benefitting from their counterassault abilities. And what will you hold your home objective with? It's kind of a waste to have a Valkyrie sitting on home plate with a maxed-out Grenadier or GK squad inside. Let the cannon fodder handle it!(do i need infantry platoons and heavy weapons?)
