Here is an Imperial Guard dream list. It comes in at 1,980 points, which gives 20 points for extras. The objective of this list is to keep your opponent guessing which target to shoot at.
Company Command SquadNothing special, just the CO and four dudes2 Platoons each having:1 Command Squad w/ autocannon2 Valkyrie Squadrons each having:
2 Infantry Squads w/ autocannons
2 Heavy Weapon Squads w/ Missile Launchers3 Valkyries w/ multiple rocket podsHeavy Support Squadron having:1 Leman Russ Executioner w/Lascannon and plasma sponsonsCompany Commands squad sits in the back giving orders to the 4 missile launcher squads. They will take out ALL of your opponent's armor in a single turn with the "Bring it Down" orders.
1 Leman Russ Battle Tank w/ Lascannon
Each Valkyrie squadron has one platoon command squad and two infantry squads
The Executioner gives 5 plasma blast templates - it's a unit killer. The attached Leman Russ is there to soak up the hits (see squadron hit allocation rules). If you hide the LR behind cover, you'll also get a cover save!
Keep the Valkyries moving and you will be able to deploy six troop choices in your opponent's deployment zone by the second turn.
If you play this list you will need to bring a CD player and crank "Ride of the Valkyries" during your movement phase.
Let me know if you think six Valkyries is a "power list" or a "fluff list".
Berks Warhammer 40K: Ride of the Valkyries
1. At best you can knock out is four vehicles, and that's assuming none of them are AV14.
2. Only two of the HWS will get to use "Bring It Down!", as the Commander is just a normal one.
3. What if your opponent stays out of LoS first turn?
While you may drop 6 units of troops on objectives by turn two, they are only guardsmen. Good luck keeping them alive. You also gave them long range weapons (ACs), which better serve them if they sit still.
If you want to dump your Troops next to the enemy, they need special weapons.
I suggest that if you want to do a "Valkyrie Rush" list, you take Veterans with special weapons.
You're also wasting a perfectly good LRBT.
In short, this is nowhere near a "power list".

Six Valks can certainly be a 'power' list, but I think your Troops choices are lacking. 4 Missile Launcher squads certainly isn't going to do anything appreciable to all of my armor at 2,000pts in one turn, twin linked or otherwise. You need some choices that are appropriate to ride in those Valkyries.
I find your logic on squading the tanks dubious. Not only does it cause Immobilised to automatically upgrade to destroyed, but both can be killed by shooting one! Suppose a unit of fire dragons hops out in your backfield. They don't even have to choose which tank to wreck. They can just shoot one and wreck them both. I can't imagine ever squading tanks if I have a free slot.
A list with that many valks could certainly be considered a 'power list'.. Your list is however not an example thereof since every other selection in the army got better alternatives.. Sorry for saying it so bluntly and keep in mind that this is just my opinion.. I'll try to explain my concerns in the following:Sorry.. But I have to say I laughed a bit when I read this.. You are being quite optimistic if you think this is what's going to happen..Company Commands squad sits in the back giving orders to the 4 missile launcher squads. They will take out ALL of your opponent's armor in a single turn with the "Bring it Down" orders.
2 Orders only, and they aren't that reliable, especially not on HWS.. Even if you pass the orders there's no guarentee that the vehicle you aim at will be hit, there's no guarentee that you will penetrate the vehicles you hit and there's no guarentee that you will the destroy the vehicles that you penetrate.. There's no chance to penetrate av 14 at all.. Id you're going AT with HWS I'd say get lascannons..
Also as psichotykwyrm said you can only take down 4 vehicles.. which would mean that only armies such as your own (thanks to your unneccesary squadroning) could lose all vehicles in a single turn.
This leads us to some simple modifications that should increase both the survivability and firepower output of your army: makes valks go in three squadrons of two instead of two squadrons of three.. split up the russes.. The only reason to squadron imho is if you're out of force selections..
You won't really need the autocannons in your valk squads.. I guess I'd just stay aboard for as long as possible..
As the list is now it's to be considered 'fluffy' if anything.. I just don't see it working out very well in a competitive setting..
If you want a 'power list' I think your best shot is doing like most other aircav lists, drop the platoons and get melta armed veterans/ccs instead..
Also as a final note seeing this as a armylist thread you might want to post in the armylist section of the IG board next time
Peace~ And sorry again for being quite blunt..
Agreed with the above.
