Is it worth taking Commissars in infantry squads to boost their morale and combat ability. I have fought a few small games and they always die as soon as units get there, this is the only viable option i have thought of to counter this with my points limit.
I only use them to pass my order passing abilities, LD9 with a re-roll from the vox, I ain't failing my orders easily, and I don't want my lascannons and autocannons running away
plus it fits my fluff
So do you think they are worth it then. just for the re-rolls?
Of course they're worth it; Stubborn Ld9 and rerolling failed Morale checks? Also, if you paint them red they look like M. Bison.
Depends on your army, I run mech so commies are a waste of points, and to be honest I have never been that impressed with them anyway, I tend to view them along the same lines as priests, Ogryns, techies, PP, page fillers.

One commissar for a unit of 10 guards is overkill, but if you're fielding combined units, they're totally worth it.

Well I don't know about earlier codex's, I have only been playing IG since 4th. I tried them out in 4th but they really were just a massive points sink for a not that great unit by my third game they were gone. When I heard the initial rumour that commies were going to be 20pts in 5th, I though GW had done good by IG players but now it's only 5 pts cheaper for, I think, a worse unit overall as it is.Originally Posted by Zema
Which is a real shame, it's not like GW hasn't had many years and 4 codexes to correct this.
The only real worth in commies as I see it is in a 30-50 man blob sitting on an objective, then the points cost is justifiable.
