hi there. i'm new to this forum and very new to 40k. i had a question about armoured fist units. i see it as a choice in some army builders but now the new codex.....does this mean that it doesn't exist anymore as a unit choice?
oh, and while i'm here....the fire on my target rule applied to a senior officer in a CC squad. it states he can order a unit to fire on a nominated target...can this be any unit within 12" even if that unit has already fired that round?
Nah they don't exist nowa days. Now Normal Infantry squads can take Chimeras where as before they couldn't (i know doctrins blah blah blah)
If you've got an Armoured Fist squad you can just count them as a normal Platoon Infantry Squad with a Dedicated Transport or as a Vet Squad which is a troop choice on it's own like the old Fist squad.
As for orders. Orders are done at the start of the shooting phase (so before all shooting has been taken). You do an order work it out then move onto the next order and then move onto all the 'normal' shooting.

Welcome to the forum.
no armoured fist squads no longer exist as a seperate unit but if you like the idea you can take a squad of vets in chimera or give a chimera to any unit in an infantry platoon. so as example if before this codex you had a platoon (comman plus 2 squads of ten) and a armored fist squad (10 guys) as your 2 troops choices. you can now run that as a platoon and a vet squad to get the minium 2 troops.

the quick answer is no.
It states on the rules on orders that you must give all orders by senior officers then jr officers. it also says that are made atthe begining of the shooting phase. The only order that I know of that manipulates the rule is alrahem's special ordr that allows yo tom move after you fier.
if you are looking to start guard i first buy the codex and write out an army list. then i would build your army in 500 point chunks. My first purchase after the codex would be a batlion , a box of troops & trade for or bitz buy 3 melta guns. It would give you a platoon, a vet squad , a command squad and a sentinal (which you would use latter. here is a sample list from the above.
Command officer with bolt pistol, master of ordance (extra guy with vox on back), company standard, mortar team, vox
officer with pwr fist, 4 flamers
plasma gun, missle laiuncher vox
grenade launcher missle launcher vox
3 melta upgraded to scout (allows you to infaltrate or come in on the flank)
It comes out to about 500 points. this will be the core of your army. if you are interested in where i would go from there let me know. hope this helps
Hrm. Suddenly I wonder what htis does to the apoc formations for 'em?
I'd suppose just a mounted squad in a chimera works, for that purpose..

Company Command squad
commander with lasgun and stupid staff/vox w lasgun/2 gaurdsmen with lasguns and a standard with chainsword.
Platoon command squad(5)
commander with chainsword and bolt pistol./ flamer/g launcher and 2 gmen with lasguns
IP 1(10 )
srgnt with p fist and p sword/ g launcher and the rest gmen with lasguns (didnt know i could have more special weapons)
srgnt with laspistol and chainsword/ flamer/ heavy weapons team with lascannon and the rest gmen with lasguns.
special weapons squad (6)
chimaira with hunter killer/multi laser and mounted 'storm bolter?'
scout sentinel with lascannon and scary looking chainsaw which i cant find info on anywhere
