I do not play WH but I have an Inquisitor waiting for henchmen to build up. I might use them untill my SM gets done and converted to be CSM.
My first question is as I see everyone takes Heavy Bolters. What`s wrong with the grenade launchers? In their statistics they supposed to be good againts infantry and armour and also assault weapon, so You can move and shoot. So why is not used? (Must be a good reason that I do not know.) Range or one shot only or what? And also, how many I can take? One by warrior? I own a WH codex and it sais that, just would be sure.
My second question is: What are the death cult assassins capable of? I mean they looking good as models so I am afraid that they are crap. (Just like hellions or scourges: less than meets the eye). If the perform medium level, I would buy one for the collection. And how many, if they woth? One or full squad?
Thank You for the answers!
I am not sure who you are talking about taking the launchers.
I can't speak about the assassins.. I have never played with them.
people take heavy bolters because it keeps the inquisitor away from the front lines. Inquisitors are nice, but they cannot hold their own in hand to hand with space marines. Its much more effective to give them some heavy weapons for a nice fire base.
Two or three together can maul most squads if they can get to them, but your opponent will promptly shoot them - that having been said as seperate units they can draw away quite a chunk of fire for a turn.
Pros - a good number of I5 S4 power weapon attacks, a good 'scare' unit, each assassin has to be shot individually
Cons - a bit pricey for what you get, squishy, limited flexibility (no fleet, move through cover, frags, anti-tank, or anything 'extra' to really justify their points)
They could make good road-blocks one day and be road kill the next, don't make any plans around them, just use them to disrupt your opponent - if they lurk and hop out at a critical point in the game you use them to split your opponent's response fire.
Hbolters go well with plasma cannons or psycannons for your Inquisitor to sit in cover and fire. Inquisitors and retinues make for excellent firebase units.
In that role, a weapon that hits once at 24" doesn't really measure up to a weapon that hits more at 36".
If you want mobile fire, grenade launchers aren't bad. WitchHunters however, have much better mobile fire options... Sisters of Battle in rhinos.
Death Cult asassins are kind of expensive for what they do. they're a killpoint, and not really a great statline. plus the invulnerable sweater save only lasts so long in both shooting and in CC.
as A.T. said, they don't last too long when your opponent just shoots them down with their own small squad.
