I wonder if there is any (maybe fan-made) update for the fifth edition. I already read the current erratas and was a bit disappointed (e.g. Eversor assassin and fast shot rule), but we don't really have to pay still 70 points for a chimera or 50 for a rhino (also the new cheaper variants have more equipment too, like smoke launchers, searchlight etc.) or do we?
Forgeworld has put out Imperial Armour updates in PDF form that modify things "smartly". Prices adjusted, rules for weapons and wargear altered to fit more recent models, etc. If you can convince your opponent to let you use these rules, you're good to go.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Heh, beat me to it.
My biggest interest is the chimera and rhinos. I just doesn't seem right that say for a basic IG Chimera for 55 pts we have to pay 94 points and can't have the same number of models firing from the top hatch along with the open-topped effect.
The easiest thing to do is take your Chimeras as part of an Inducted Guard contingent. That way they come cheaper, get all the options from the new Guard, and your ISTs and Grey Knights can ride in them too.
That will fix your Chimeras; as for the rest of the Codex... unfortunately, like number6 says, it's a case of either talking your gaming group into adopting IA rules or living with what you have
Frankly speaking I am against using the FW rules... not because they would greatly unbalance the game but because we would be getting the best of both worlds! Our LRC suddenly gets the real Assault Cannon with its rending assault 4 beauty, the rhinos become cheaper and get repair etch... BUT we do keep our uber NFW on the GM...
So personally I would keep my codex as is + Errata... I know it hurts as a bit but thats life!
IA only addresses vehicle rules, under my personal assumption if one used IA vehicles, he gives up any vehicle rules that are included in the codex.
(i seen some people take a rhino from IA2 and buy them extra armor from codex, or buy one vehicle from IA2 and one from codex - this i consider rubbish, its either IA or codex)
If we would get best of both worlds, im still waiting for the 3++ storm shields and updated psychic powers.
The IA rules aren't all that bad; it's not like the extra vehicle options make either the Witch Hunters or Daemonhunters vastly more powerful. In fact, the IA rules for Daemonhunters aren't great; a lot of them are silly at best and some of them are just straightforward nerfs. The LR Crusader is a case in point. In exchange for the hunky Rending Assault Cannon you lose the free multimelta (with no option to purchase one as an upgrade either) AND the ability to always fire the Hurricane Bolters. The increased transport capacity on both LRs is bunk too; the Crusader in the Codex can carry 8 Termies as-is and PAGKs don't come in squads of 12 or 16. Increased weapon options for the Dreads are cool, but being able to choose either a psycannon and a heavy bolter just seems silly to me; the only reason to bother putting a Heavy Bolter on a GK Dread currently is so's you can give it the Psycannon Bolts upgrade, and who's going to bother doing that if you get an actual Psycannon for 5pts less?
Having a LR for Inquisitors that can carry 12 models is kind of cool, but they're probably the only upgrade that comes close to making any sense.
There are a bunch more units to discuss, but in terms of ISTs, we do pay more for the transport, but our troop cost vs. the IG is actually on par. The troops are cheaper.
True you don't get the AP3 hellguns, but you get a points cost reduction.
I find we (=][=) are better in 5th than we were in 4th. AV 14 vehicles are nigh indistructible. More DS opponents make the Mystics invaluable. GKGM NFW is unparalelled. Our Smoke is fantastic. TRUE hurricane bolters on our crusader.
I had a 3k point apoc game on Tuesday and had one LR withstand 10 S10 AP1 shots before going down. I had 2 other LRs that went unscathed...
I think you have to adjust your paridigm and focus on figuring out what you can do with what we have. The standard WW layout (3 LRs, GM or BK, =][= w/ Mystics, 3x GK squads) is truly cheesy and competitive against power builds...couldn't say that in 4th...
