what weapons do you give youre tactical squads and why because i am in a bit of a dilemma over what to fit my heavy guys with. please feel free to state youre opinion
Since I firmly believe in superior firepower with more shots, I stick with assault weapons and multi-shot weapons. Meltaguns, Flamers, and Heavy Bolters. I don't have too much variability so I try to keep relevant weapons together. Flamers and Meltaguns work well together, Heavy Bolters can work well with Missile Launchers. But also depending on the squad role (Infiltrate a la Sicarius) I'll mix and match, like Heavy Bolters with Meltaguns.
Plasma Cannon: Cheap AP2, something I can lack. Scares deep strike units. Reasonably effective against a wide range of targets. Also, unit I shoot a plasma cannon at, are often units that bolters can at least annoy. I don't like to wasting the bolters. I don't take more than 2 of these.
Heavy Bolter: Solid anti infantry weapon, it helps make the most out of the squads bolters, this unit is often one I'll use to take close or home objectives. Solid unit for pegging targets in cover.
Multi-Melta: Used with drop pods, the multi melta provides excellent covering fire after landing.
I don't use the ML or the Lascannon. The Lascannon is overshadowed by attack bikes and drop podded melta weapons. It does not appeal to me. The Missile launcher doesn't have enough strength to be a great anti tank weapon and the heavy bolter is better against hoards.
I use multi-meltas and plasmacannons. I use the ML in my Devastators if I field them and I leave the lascannons back on the battle barge. Heavy bolters are good, but I usually use them on my vehicles instead.

Depends on the points and if I am using dev's or not.
Generally I stick with ML in smaller games so I can have the option of both for the limited open options.
I all weapons in 1500 games bar the lascannon in my dev squad and with my tacts.
The Missile Launcher is incredibly points-efficient. It's Free. However, I usually only pick it up if I'm jones'ing for points, usually in small points-level games where there isn't much armor that it's S8 hit can't penetrate.
I usually bring a Plasma Cannon and a Lascannon when I have two Tactical Squads. The Lascannon may be expensive, but when it's being carried by a Tac Marine, it hits fairly reliably and its long-range punch cannot be denied. There are plenty of scenarios where a vehicle needs to be popped and a Multimelta cannot be brought to bear on it. Basilisks come to mind. The Plasma Cannon is almost mandatory if you regularly face Power Armor-wearing opponents. It's just about the most reliable thing a single Marine can carry for killing multiple Marines in one shot. (Just learn the tricks to placing the Blast Template before relying on it.)
Multimeltas, I generally do not carry, because they are more reliably placed on Attack Bikes, whose speed can offset the Multimeltas' often tragically short range. I also do not generally use Heavy Bolters because my armies generally do not suffer for lack of Heavy Bolter shots. They are generally mounted onto as many vehicles as can accept them.
