i was wondering, are you aloud to take give a chapter master a command squad and if so should i?
please get back to me.....
I've always wondered why we aren't allowed to. Officially I don't think you can. Fluff-wise, as the Chapter Master, shouldn't we be allowed to take whoever we want as escorts? I can imagine it's a balance issue, like giving Marneus Calgar Feel No Pain
As I posted in another thread, since it's not a normally allowed option, the best is to have two lists when playing with people who aren't your regular players. If it's friends there's never any problems.
Command squads are quite expensive as stock, but they have their uses.
FnP rocks compared to 4th Ed. Apothecaries, but you need to work out what you want from the command squad before you field it. They can be made into CC or ranged monsters with either power weapons or assault weapons, all you need to do is find the points and then build them as your army needs. Doing a mix never really pays off.
From experience, a CC based command squad with captain with relic blade/storm shield/arti-armour and chappy or master(with relic blade/storm shield/arti-armour) absolutely rocks =)
The rules only let you take a Command Squad with a Captain, not a Chapter Master. I agree, it's a bit daft that the chapter master can't choose to take a command squad, but those are the rules. Personally I'd be fine with it, and I think most reasonable players would be. A Chapter Master goes into battle with whoever he wants to!
Thou shalt remember:
Warhammer Fantasy armies do NOT have Codices. They have Army Books.

Really there are a massive range of HQ options that work well with a command squad, mostly because FnP granted to the HQ makes for one tough cookie.
Kahn (on bike) + Chappy (on bike) + Command Squad (on bikes!) = powahhhh! =)
