Is 60 space marines good in a 2000pt army list or bad? I know it depends who your playing but can you win with mostly space marines. I always wanted to field 60 space marines in drop pods and rhinos because it would look so cool.
Has anyone done it in a game and if so please tell if it worked good or epic failed.
Back in 3rd I had a buddy that did 6 tatic squads and 3 dev all with missle launchers and a force commander. Can't reamber what points or if he had anything else also but he did realy well. Was able to easly deal with what ether was thrown at him.
hey if you want to run 6 tacs I dont see why not they would be pretty damn versitile, but I dont think you would do exeptionally well at anything.
I was thinking of running 6 squads with flamers missiles launchers and melta guns with rhinos. That comes to around about 1300pts and havin 3 iron clads each with 2 heavy flamers and drop pods.
Might try it out anyways might be good vs a horde army buts vs IG : /
If your going to put a tac squad with a missile launcher into a rhino its a waste of a points since you most likely wont be shooting with it. I would put 2 meltas in the squads that are in rhinos, and leave 1 or 2 squads back with missile launchers just to give you some sort of covering fire.
If I were to run 6 tactical squads 3 would have powerfists and 3 power weapons. 4 squads would have meltaguns, 2 flamers. Heavy weapons would propably be 2x missile launcher, 2x plasma cannon, 2x heavy bolter. They'd also all have Razorbacks. This comes to 1410 exactly.
Add 5 TH/SS Terminators in a LRR, a Terminator Librarian (with a Storm Shield, Null Zone and Vortex of Doom) and you've an solid 2.5k army featuring 7 tanks and 66 infantry.
In fact I might try this at some point, just to see how it goes.
You don't need flamers, you have enough boltguns.
Give it a try. It's something I'd definitely be willing to try myself.

Tactical Squads are great, and having 6 of them at 2000pts is hardly a big drag. I'd suggest 4 in Rhinos and 2 in Drop Pods, possibly with a couple of cheap Dreads in Drop Pods too so's your Troops don't all arrive on turn one, and some nice cheap HQs (Chaplains or Librarians are nice) so's you can fit in a couple of dakka Preds or something.
Also you can only take 1 special weapon per Tactical Squad regardless of wether or not you take a heavy weapon, and since those heavy weapons are free it makes no sense to avoid taking them.
