Here is my current Leman Russ Battle Tank setup...
Hull on Lascannon. sweet! Now I can't decide on wither to take multi melta sponsons or heavy bolters. My other leman russ has hull lascannon and heavy bolter sponsons.
Any help/advice you guys can give is greatly appreciated, Thanks!!
In my opinion it really depends on how this Leman Russ will be used in your battles. In my general case, if it is the Leman Russ Battle Tank, I have my with a hull mounted Heavy Bolter with Heavy Bolter sponsons. Reason being I've made this Leman Russ Battle Tank a mobile Infantry seeking monster having the ability to eliminate very tight backs of infantry. With the fact that BS3 and scattering more likely in my case, I would not place the lascannon on it just because it can be better fielded on say a Vanquisher where it has its own Vanquisher Cannon blasting away at other tanks. If it fails with that I can rely on the lascannon to do some damage as well.
With Melta sponsons, only have a range of 24 it would be over kill as, it can be placed on a outflanking Vanquisher with Pask in it blowing up other tanks with BS 4.
Just my two cents, keep it simple, don't go over spending on a tank thats trying to do more than two jobs

Hull lascannon sucks. BS3, high cost, not helpful to its role.
HB sponsons suck. 6 S5 shots at BS3. Whoop dee freakin' doo.
Multi-melta sponsons suck. BS3, can't move and shoot both, doesn't support the Battle Cannon.
PC sponsons are solid. They mess up infantry like the BC, but hit termies and such hard too. Pricey though.

it really matters on what tank it is any ordance varient dont take sponsons if you intend on using the main cannon. vanquishers with lascannons however are very effective
hope is the first step on the road to dissapointment
Normally if I have lascannons I keep them sponson-less and keep them mobile. If I had to pick a sponson though I would go with plasma cannons cuz of better range and similar targets.
Most Notable Achievements:
Killed a Revenant Titan in one shot.
Killed 900 pts worth of Blood Angels in 2 turns while only loosing 4 pts.
Personally I run three LR's, one with las-cannon, two with three HB's (hull + 2 sponsoons). I play mech and I don't move much before turn three/four. I find that the HB's are probably one of the most effective weapons I have, maybe lucky in my dice rolls, but I seem to tear apart marines as easily as Orks. The las-cannon is a bit hit and miss, and I would normally agree it is a waste on BS3, however when it comes good it pays it's points, blew me up a rhino full of berzerker's last night on turn one.
I like sponson heavy bolters, sure 1 BS3 heavy bolter isn't much but 3 per russ, then 2-3 russes, a couple chimeras with multi lasers, and stubbers 6+ infantry squads... Guard have always relied on the number of shots and mine will continue to do so. Besides those marines must run out of ammo at some point.
That being said, it's hard to go wrong with plasma cannons.
