I've been wondering if anyone actually has one of these, and if so how they perform on the battlefield, specifically the punisher gatling cannon.
The stats on it are 'unusual' i would say .. which makes me think it could mow down alot of freakin' infantry. If one added heavy bolters to the hull and side sponsons, you'd have yourself an anti-infantry killing machine from Hades! That is quite a bit of lead to throw down range if you think about it.
Does anyone have one or use one? Did you convert it yourself? Got a pic? I'm thinking about what would make the best representation of the gatling cannon, any ideas?
Would you take 3x HB, or would you get Lascannon and 2 plasmas instead to make it a dual purpose vehicle? I like the 3x HBs because if the gatling cannon doesn't completely annihilate the squad, the HBs will certainly finish it off. It definitely has the potential to destroy a 10 man squad in a single shooting phase, im talking about guys with armor saves too.
I think the most common use for it is to shove pask in so that it can hit stuff worth a damn and use it to take out MCs with 2/3 of those 20 shots hitting, and then getting to re-roll failed wounds with his "crack shot" special rule. when you consider that on average only half of those 20 shots will hit, and the fact that it has no AP, it's really not that great, and against MEQs I'd take a vanilla russ any day. However, it does excel at shredding MCs. Also, it has a pathetic range.
I've tried a Punisher w/2 HB's, lascannon, & Pask. I shredded a Daemon Prince with just the Punisher gun alone (he failed about 6-7 of his 12-13 saves). They do well enough against 3+ saves but will have some problems against 2+ saves. I would go with plasma cannon sponsoons in the case you come up against these units. For the hull weapon, go for the standard HB or heavy flamer.
What I don't get about the Punisher is its inflated price tag on the army list. Who decided this thing is better than a Demolisher? Better than a Demolisher by the same margin that a Demolisher is better than a regular LRBT? It's plain silly. It should be the same cost as the Eradicator to cover the rear armor buff, that's about it.
I'll use one anyway of course just because the model is BA and I have a DKOK Commissar Tank Commander to use as Pask
Yes it is way overpriced.. put talk about a dedicated anti-infantry vehicle, sheesh. 3x HBs and a Gatling cannon? This thing would EAT Tyranids for lunch, Orks too. Horde armies beware. The plasma cannons make it more versatile, but thats not what im going for. I want a straight up infantry eater.
I'm going to make one, just to use it against horde armies.
It has an extra rear armor point than normal Russ, did you know that?
Forgeworld has produced 'aircraft Punisher cannons' that look pretty awesome. They're like massive assault cannons. I was thinking about whacking on these. Twin linked assault cannon of doom? Sounds like it could be Heavy20.
Forge World NEW STUFF!
I'd deffinatly Chuck Pask in there to make sure those shots hit home. I'd give the bad boy 3 Heavy Bolters and a Stubber. 32 shots is not bad from one model. Especially at BS4.
The set up should make a mess of most infantry. MEQ's will be able to take most of the punishment with their armour but they're still going to loose some guys with the amount of wounds you'll be inflicting.
Also with Pasks 'Crackshot' rule those shots become str6 against vehicles which means if needs must you can pretty much shred most light tanks to bits. it's only str6 but theres 29 of those str6 shots. That should glance most AV12 tanks to death anyway.

Yes, two punisher cannon models from FW twin linked would make the perfect punisher cannon.
I was looking @ their Vendetta conversion kit, and there's no heavy bolters? The rules let you guy an HB on each "sponson" on each side of the Vendetta. I did see some tasty autocannons that I could stick a pair of under the inner wing portion, that shuld do the trick.
But thanks for the idea, im definitely going to use a pair of those when I make my Punisher. ::-)
Ah I thought they had changed the hull but couldn't tell by the other pics.
I still think i'd use the two FW ones though. I think two cannons would look meaner.
Sorry to resurrect this thread after such a long time but I've got a question about the punisher and it seemed a better to post it here than setup a new thread.
"Got a 1500pt elite mech guard army filled with lots of anti-MEQ (list below) I rarely play 1750pts and I was curious to know would it be a wise choice to have a Pask Punisher for games 1750, since I could do with a anti-nid/ork unit?"
