so I am playing against a CSM that loves his slanessh and basically follows single god list
he goes with the usual 2 x Lash Princes, lots of noise marines and for his heavies... well Obliterators... ussually 3 groups of 2 if not more!
I dont believe I have a huge problem against him at 1750 but I am worried about using my LR's against massed and accurate Lascannon fire! Also his evil marines get +1 initiative so...
Your primary need is protection from Lash of Submission. The single best protection against it is to go mechanized, so load up on your land raiders and put your units inside them. Any units you leave exposed must have unguents of warding. I would actually recommend splurging on it for every unit. It'll be worth it. Putting a psychic hood on your GK Hero should also be required. The more you can dampen his reliance on Lash, the more you'll be in control of the match.
I would also put sacred incense on your GK Hero so your GKT unit, when it assaults out of its land raider crusader, will strike at the same initiative as most Slaanesh units. If it's a GM, you might even get to have him strike first.
All your mounted GK units -- GKTs included -- should have at least one incinerator on them. Without that initial pre-charge kick, your GKs will be outmatched in most close combats against slaanesh units. They are too fast and generate too many attacks.
So go mechanized and stay in your raiders until you are forced out or you can arrange a devastating assault with those incinerators front and center. It is absolutely critical that you not get caught in protracted close combats, otherwise those speedy slaaneshi units will simply gang up on you.
Points permitting, it wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea to have an Inquisitorial firebase -- with unguents of warding! -- and at least one mystic for deep striking protection. Being exposed, however, they would be serious danger of taking the full brunt of all Lash attempts and most of the shooting. If you have the points to spare, putting an Inquisitor and a pair of mystics in a dedicated land raider transport makes superior deep striking defense.
If you have more GK units than can fit in the raiders, I'd give every one of them a pair of psycannons and unguents of warding. Run them with the raiders, keeping them screened with the tanks. When the daemons show up, blast 'em with psycannon dakka. When the slaaneshi marines get close, catch them in a land raider pincer, shoot the crap out of them, clean them up with assault. You have to beat slaanesh with firepower; assaults are only clean-up actions.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.
RIP Warhammer 40,000: 21 Sep 1998 - 24 May 2014
Your opponent is using a very strong chaos list...and probably their cheesiest as well. Time to break out your 3 Land Raiders (if you have that many). Just make sure you always move over 6" if his DP's are anywhere within assault range so that they only hit your LR's on 6's. They're his best anti-tank (along with the oblits).
Unguents are good in this case, better than a psychic hood, because it gives you double protection - you get the save both for unguents and your Aegis armor. Also, take Sacred Incense for your GK hero.
Take out his oblits from afar. They may get 6 lascannon shots, but you get 6 twin-linked lascannon shots (though they can get cover).
Beware of his Noise Marine's Doom Sirens and Blastmasters. They'll just brutalize you GK's. They won't do much against your LR's, but they can take meltabombs so just make sure you keep your LR's moving when they get close. Even though they have I5, you have the slight advantage with S6 & WS5 in close-combat. You can charge him but never, ever let him get the charge on your GK's with his Noise Marines. If he does, he's gonna roast your GK's with his doom siren (cover doesn't matter) and then he'll get the +1A for charging. You won't survive.
I would suggest taking the psychic hood as it is better than ageis* Take ur normal PAGK which hopefully have psycannons and camp on the table edge. Concentrate fire into the Daemon princes as the T5 monstrous will die quickly to mass volume of psycannon fire. btw Psycannons r mandatory for any gd Grey knight army so if u dont take them u might want to consider it. Shrouding should protect u from oblit plasma cannon if u r hugging the table edge and r spread out in a line with cover saves availble.
If ur playing annilation just pick off the daemon princes and any rhinos he has and keep ur distance no need to rush in keep him contained. In objective based game do what I said with ur power armor grey knights and then u can do 1 of 2 things to deal with oblits u can deep strike ur hopefully 8 to 10 strong TGK or u can put them in a crusader and rush the oblits take smoke launchers as retarted as it is if u read the rules for daemonhunter smoke launchers it reduces all penetrating hits to glancing hits. If there is an Faq out there on that the correct me but thats what it says in the codex. so u can just rush the oblits and ur termies should clean up most of his forces.
The only thing for ur termies to fear are other termies of slaanesh with lightning claws. If he has those just keep away block em with landraider. U dont really need mystics they r not that great in my opinion. Taking an inquisitor with the emperor's tarot and attaching him to a PAGK and giving him artificer some invul equipment and a psycannon and he will be great for ur force. Hope thats of help to u.
I typed this with no intentions of fullfilling gd grammar and well organised thoughts. Just threw it out there cause I feel like it,but if you read it all the stuff is there that might be of use to you.
