Hey everybody, I'm a new WH40K player, even tho I've had friends play it for long, sadly instead of a post introducing myself or helping someone, my first post is with questions and doubts about the Space Marines.
My first doubt is, I've seen in the army lists subforum a Deathwing army, that fielded Terminators as troops, given that I haven't yet decided on what chapter to play, I was wondering if that's a special rule of Dark Angels, or how it's done?
Second, I'm interested in both Space Marines and Daemon Hunters (Mostly because I just finished reading the Grey Knights trilogy) , I've seen the rules for allies, and I was wondering if I could ally an inquisitor lord, and take some PAGK or even an assassin?
And finally, even tho there's a sticky for people that are undecided on what chapter to play, I'll ask for some help, my friends showed me the 4th edition rulesbooks, and in there you could create your own space marines chapter, by taking some advantages and defects, is that still possible in 5th? , I have only skimed through the rulebooks so far, as I don't own them till well, tuesday when I get my paycheck
Thanks in advance to everyone, and I hope to have a great time with you all, as this seems to be an amazing forum!
The Deathwing army list is, like you guessed, a special army list available to the Dark Angels. You'll find the rules in the Dark Angels Codex, though of course you could use the Deathwing rules with your own chapter if you wanted to.
I'm not too well versed on the allies rules, but if I remember correctly you can attach quite a lot of Daemonhunters & Witchhunters choice to your army. Someone else had better come along to answer that one though.
The traits system from 4th edition no longer exists. The army list in 5th is pretty flexible, so you can still flavour your army how you want. The main way of doing this in 5th ed is with the characters you take. For example, taking a captain on a bike lets you take bikes as troops choices.
The named characters in the book, such as Sicarius, Lysander, Shrike etc. all have army wide special rules which allow you to change the style of your marine army by taking that character. These are mainly intended to help you replicate that character's chapter (for example Vulkan He'Stan of the Salamanders enhances your flamers, meltas and thunder hammers - weapons that the Salamanders are well known for using), but there's no reason not to take these characters in different chapters or even your own. Just rename them for your army.
Thou shalt remember:
Warhammer Fantasy armies do NOT have Codices. They have Army Books.

Thank you very much for your help, I'll look into customizing an army of SM then.
This means that you can take a WH inquisitor and a DH assassin (the inquisitors are different but the assassins are the same) a DH inquis lord and a DH assassin, or a WH inquis lord and a WH assassin. PAGK's are troops so you can always take a few squads of those.

Well, as for colors, I like white, blue and grey, I want to play mostly and army that has a really powerful firebase, to support a few assault units. Something like, a few heavy weapons, dev squads for example, to fire at things while my PAGK and GKT get near the enemy and charge them. Or if that fails, just an army that fires a lot of plasma and lasers
Thanks for the quick answers!
