Maybe it was just luck but no one can tell me now that guardsmen always suck in close combat. Here's their story.
Myself (IG) and three others (vanilla marines, dark angels, and tyranids) were playing a planetstrike game when three tyranid raveners deep striked (deep struck?) and immediately assaulted a vanilla marine tac squad. They wipe out the tac squad and lose 1 ravener. Next tyranid turn they reverse direction and charge my 8-man infantry squad. Here's where it get interesting.
The raveners (with 8 attacks on the charge) kill one guardsman. My guardsmen turn around and deal two wounds to (and kill one) ravener. They win! The remaining ravener stays locked in combat and next turn kills one guardman and my guardsmen deal two wounds and kill the last ravener!
Charged by two raveners, win both combats, and wipe out the enemy brood, all with only two casualties on their side! I think I'ma model something nice and fitting for them to commemorate this occasion! Any ideas?
Or another way to make medals would be to:
1) Take a purity seal
2) Cut off one of the hanging ribbons, the one that's behind the other
3) glue it onto the model upside down and paint the seal metalic while making the parchment another colour
Three easy steps, simple enough for even me to remember it
