sorry if this was posted twice..
was watching a friendly game at local GW, and a player had a GKGM with a daemonhammer in one hand and a LC in another. before each assault he declared which one he was going to use and off he went. aside from whether or not its a useful conversion (no FW, enormous points sink), is it even torunament legal?...have to say it was impressive in the friendly game though
I am not sure but i think it is because I have asked somebody that works in GW and they did not say that it ain't.
(my GM has a Nemmisis Forse Weapon and a Thunder Hammer)
FOR FREEDOM, FOR HONOUR, FOR BLOOD
Yes it's legal. But you wouldn't get a +1 attack for having two one handed weapons. Kinda a waste of points if you ask me, especially since you'd lose the FREE S6 force weapon.
And Shade, same goes with your NFW/T-hammer. Legal, but a waste of points. GM's shouldn't be tank-hunting, so leave the Hammer at home.
thanks, got to say it was pretty effective though i initially agreed also that it was a waste of points (but i might try it. the GM and his retinue really went to town, and as u said megalomaniac he used the hammer for tanks (successfully), and he was lucky with the reroll with LC against units in combat. annihilated the IG he was playing against. also DS another termie squad and 2 smaller FAGK which REALLY changed the game...i was impressed...so was the guy he was playing against..made me want to beef up my GK army now.
I found giving my GKGM a chainfist+NFW a good combo
I then give him scourging.
So, he gets the +1A for 2CCW, gets S8+2d6 vs vehicles, S6 force weapon at I 5 for non vehicles, and a S5 assault d6 ranged attack.
Makes him a real beast in CC, which is really where he always ends up (against large CSM units, Daemon Princes, Obliterators, Defilers, etc)
Gaining the +1A for the GM is huge, and pure GK armies (like mine) always need a pick me up vs vehicles. I find that GK termies w/thunderhammers are a waste, and they can't take meltabombs. With the chainfist I gain the +1A for my GM plus always have the option of using the unit to assault a particularly pesky enemy vehicle if it's nearby.
A LC + TH is a complete waste like Megalo said. He doesn't gain the +1A, plus loses the NFW (which is worth a lot of points, and you don't get the points back if you get rid of it!
Honestly, with a S6 weapon he shouldn't really need rerolls to wound. His odds of wounding with the NFW are way better than the LC.
agree with you tactic wise dvang.
this guy also had scourging as well by the way so i'm thinking of going with 2 CC weapons as well and scourging (or holocaust). he also said that he knew that the LC is a big points sink but against T3 (not sure why if he had a nfw) and T4 opponents (maybe). he thinks the reroll gives him better odds and has been a "gamesaver"...it was working today thats for sure and what i do know is the model looked cool so i was thinking of using LC's as a NFW (str6 but no reroll) but i doubt i could use it in a tourney (see my other post)
Actually the thunder hammer really helps against tanks and guys with multiple wounds, so it stuns, and i can use it as a daemonhammer when I want to at +5 points. The nemisis force weopon is for taking out troops. In my opinion it is alot of points but it works like a charm for me.
FOR FREEDOM, FOR HONOUR, FOR BLOOD
dvang, I'm actually thinking about taking a BC w/ chainfist & 2 termies with thunderhammers as an elite choice in a 2k army. I'd do it with the GM, but the force weapon comes in handy so much that I try and avoid combat with vehicles with him. This second unit would try and deepstrike behind the enemy's artillery line and take out as much armor as he can (I play IG a fair amount, so there's usually a line of Bassies and such near the back).
i am also adding as an elite 2 gk termies with Thunder Hammers and Storm Shield (but i am converting the storm shield and using the crusader suppression shield). The B/C has a NFW and a suppression shield also (i am giving up on trying to call it an icon of the just, so i do lose the bolter), and finally psycannons on the remaining 2. After the posts here and in my other question with WYSIWYG, for my GM, i am going to craft a unique Lightning claw and make it my NFW. My Games Workshop guy here said it should be okay in tournaments as long as you declare what it is and it "looks" different from standard LC's. Still not sure about the other hand, either a Hammer or the chainfist like yours Dvang. thnks everyone.
I was never entirely convinced on the whole thunderhammer/LC debate, and never a great fan of chainfists.
However, i think that with perserverance, and the sheer beardiness (in a good way) shown by this thread, i might get my bits box out and convert away.
I found that gaining the +1 attack is not only awesome, its almost a pre-requisite for a winning army. Get as many attacks as possible, and make sure you don't stand around getting shot........as expensive as GK's are, they will perform if appropriately........equipped. ( Was going to say min/maxed, but i love the CF idea so much, i'm going to have to do one).
