Well recently i moved over here from the daemonhunters forum to find that many space marine army lists are mech/ mass tactical squads with Vulkan He'stan.
Every list i see is the same 6 x 10 man tactical marines w/ rhinos or razorbacks with a few toppings. Every suggestion list now is also the same, uh drop this this and this which will leave you 1/3 of your orignal army and replace it with the list i gave some other guy.
Is there any other way to play marines competitively?
Or is it just me ranting off about how similar everyone's list is?
I haven't read up on all the armylists, but 6 tactical squads seems much.
In a 1500 list i usually fields 2 tactical squads with multimelta, and either flamer og meltagun. With rhinos. I then build on from there. I seldom go over 3 tactical.
It has served as a good base so far.
It's a lot of SM-builds which are fun to play and try out. When it comes to competetiv lists, there isn't that many choices.

Well. I think if you have a problem with tactical sqauds you really should try anthoer race. Tactical squads are the backbone of the space marine codex. I would include a squad for every 500pts there simply the best all round troop choice in all of 40k IMHO.
Anybody who advocates 6 Tactical Squads is an idiot
Tacticals are a necessary evil, you need the scoring units. I use 2 in everything up until 2000 points, with Rhino, multi-melta, and flamer. They cap objectives and present targets, denying area with their multi-melta and threatening hordes somewhat.
The marine book has a ton of viable builds, Tac spam isn't one of them.

im not saying that they are not needed or not useful its just that many very competitive lists ive seen around just have alot of tactical squads with hestan maybe its just for the scoring or for an actual plan that they use during the game example rhino or razorback counter objective denial. i understand that troops are a must but the way some hardcore lists are made ex. ard boyz consist majorly of tacicals ranging from a half to three quarters of an army.
I use only two Tactical squads up to 1500 points. Anything after that and I bump it up to three. I don't think you'll ever need more than 3-4 squads unless the points are obscene.

Salamander project log
my current list uses 3 full tactical squads and a full sqout squad. the scouts get bolters and camo cloaks. sitting in cover and holding an objective is the scouts job...which they do without fail. meanwhile the tac squads go forth and conquor.
i love the salamander army but i got tired of seeign hestan lists also..hence i don't play it mostly to prove other buildss win fine also
I got lost on the road of life
John i saw that it was you so i didn't even read your rant lol just calm down lmao your grey knights will get an update eventully and read your codex (shirke doesn't have melta bombs anymore )
The Best There Is, The Best There Was and The Best There Ever Will Be
As a fledging templars player I imagine I will take more than 2 tactical squads. Then again they are my only troops choice and I can't combat squad them so perhaps that is acceptable? After all I would hate to be in a 5 objective game and can only physically hold 2 at any time...
