So I'm new to 40k, and I've picked SoB for my army. I like the fluff, the models, playstyle etc, but the only thing that's kind of annoying is lack of model variety.
Now, given the fact that I think grey knights look awesome, and that SoB are weak in CC, is it viable to work them into the army? Or am I going to be reducing the competitiveness of my list significantly? I would assume given their huge point cost that the list would have to be pretty large in terms of points to allow for it.
Appreciate any advice!
In a 1500 list or less, I wouldn't recommend it. I'd only consider it if I was playing at least 2000pts.
I wouldn't say it is in anything 1500 or lower.
This is because the sisters rely on mass firepower and the Grey knights are close combat orientated.
This might seem like it lets you do both but without a fair number of knights you wont do much. And if the Grey knights close then the sisters cant fire at that unit.
And if you take too many Gray knights then there isn't enough sisters to do anything.
So i wouldn't consider it competitive no but that's my opinion if you like knights go for it.
And it does suck how the witch hunters don't have much of a selection.
In a mechanised army I don't see GKs being all that useful. Maybe in a footslogging army they'd lend their strength to a countercharge.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
As others have said, I don't think it can be done competitively. Grey Knights are killer in CC yet come in small numbers, and so having a small amount of them (which is only viable in SoB due to the points they soak up), they will be easy to pick off for your opponent. They are a threat but too standalone to make a huge impact.
When I get into the 1750 pt range I have found that some GK termies do well when deep striked.
That said, there really isn't any way to squeeze enough GKs to matter into a Sisters list at anything below 2000pts, and as great as they are at killing infantry they really need a delivery system to excel (and the idea of Deep Striking 300+pts of Terminators makes me queasy... >_<).
I'd suggest, if you're finding yourself bored with the limited selection of Sisters models, either trying to cram some ISTs and other Inquisitorial units into your WH army, or possibly even switching to Daemonhunters as your main army with your Sisters as back-up. That's a far more effective combo, since it allows you to use Grey Knight Land Raiders and Crusaders in addition to the Sisters' Rhinos and Immolators, making it far easier to balance your lists.
