A friend of mine has picked up some Eldar, including a wraithlord, and I'm trying to figure out a relatively sure-fire way of taking the thing down. I'm thinking of 5-6 Sternguard in a transport, and using hellfire shells against it. My question is, will the poison 2+ wound work against it? The rounds are intended for monstrous creatures, but the Wraithlord is kinda non-fleshy...
yes it will work against it...
the fleshyness aside it is still runs off a save and wounds and not armour... so hellfire away
and yes, they are great for taking those buggers down
Wash: This landing is gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: [deadpan] Oh God, oh God, we're all going to die?
Always great to see a Eldar guy smile thinking your firing normal bolters when you say there firing. Then the look of horror when you tell him that hellfire rounds wound on a 2+....ahhh good times, untell the seer councle on jet bikes rippet my face open.
the worst is when your tooled up chapter master has to face one of those beasts one on one does two wounds takes one in return and fails his 3+ ... not to be biased but if i had sternguard in that game things woulve gone so much differently
Ask me about the Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike!!!
Wraithlords are slow.
You always get to pick what fights them.
Especially when a chapter master has access to mobility, not giving him it but 'tooling' him up is foolish.
Never send in an IC to do something alone. Unless he has a very specific role and a means to get there. Otherwise, you're just letting your opponent win.
Gareth is the person I try to impress when I convert and paint.
Thanks guys! I now have my Wraithlord counter for tommorow's game
Probably late to say this, but poisoned attacks are your friends against behemoths like a wraithlord or a carnifex for that matter.
If a Million Guardsmen die, that's a statistic. If one marine dies, that's a tragedy.
A 2+ to wound rapid fire bolter against a monstrous creature is priceless.

Of course, then you watch in horror as your precious Sternguard unit is torn to pieces by a charging unit of Howling Banshees or a combined Dispersed Prism shot that kills them all on a 2+
But yeah, Hellfire Rounds will work against Wraithlords and they are probably the best thing a SM army has for that sort of thing, barring vortex missiles on a Reaver Titan
