Ok, this is how i build a seraphim squad that i use the majority of the time.
-- Vss -- Eviscerator, Plasma Pistol
-- Hand Flamers x2
-- Bolters x5
-- Melta Bombs x8
I figure that this is a good, well rounded, unit that can take care of itself in pretty much any role that I ask it. Flamers = anti troop, bombs, evisercator = anti tank...
I have around 4 extra Seraphim with hand flamers (if you need some pm me), and I was thinking of taking 2 and converting them to plasma pistols. But how often do I think I will need them... Normally I attach a cannoness to the squad, plasma pistol, eviscerator... So the anti tank goes up...
On the charge the cannoness gets 4 swings, and I just don't know if I should lose the well roundedness of the girls by swapping in the plasma pistols...
I wouldn't bother with the Plasma Pistols at all (with 2 Hand Flamers and DG you don't need them), and I'd take the one on the VSS off her too; losing your Simulacrum and Book to a Gets Hot! wound is fail. I'd also leave the Canoness out of the unit if I were you, because losing the ability to take yourself out of combat with a Walker or something similarly stompy is also fail.
Personally I prefer a blessed weapon for the canoness, you lose a strength, but can strike in initiative order, I find it more useful.
I also don't see that you need the eviscerator in the seraphim squad for anti-tank, after-all you do have 8 melta bombs? Over kill perhaps? On the other hand she does make a nice tin opener for enemy terminators for example.
I would also steer away from the plasma, you would lose some of the versatility of the squad it seems....
Inquistion force WIP. Pics on posts 17 and 23.
Not bad composition. I personally love Inferno Pistols. If I allocate a Seraphim unit to tank hunting duty, I will normally opt for Inferno Pistols instead of flamers. They are super easy to make if you can get some melta guns, and snip the ends off - then clip the ends off bolt pistols and glue them on. I have 3 full units of Seraphim, and have converted 4 to TL Infernos. I mix them in as required.
Instead of attaching the Canoness, simply make sure she has a mantle of ophelia, and have her operate in unison with the seraphim (instead of actually joining them). This way, if you need them to, the seraphim can hit and run, and the canonness can opt in or out.
I will put melta bombs on a tank hunter unit. To answer a previous poster, I believe it is all or nothing with the melta bombs. You can't choose to simply have 1 or 2 models with melta bombs. I think it is good insurance against tanks that you definitely want destroyed. Given the choice between "absolutely, definitely, undeniably dead tank", and "probably dead tank", I'll take the former for a mere 32 points on an 8-girl unit.
I have one seraphim VSS with a plasma pistol, only because I found a plaspistol with a scope (mastercraft) in my bitz box. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother too much.
