How would an IG player take down a monolith without using too many points? I thought the best option would be a lascannon HWT, but is there a better option?
I've learned that Demolisher Cannons do a good job of putting monoliths in their place.
Space Marines: W15/L7/D3
Imperial Guard: W6/L4/D0
I once shot at a Monolith with 16 Fire dragons and did no damage
Remember it's purely a question of Strength, not Ap1, melta etc cos the Monolith negates those things. I'm not very familier with IG, I recomend going through the reference page of the codex, looking up the weapons with the highest strength values and seing how much they cost, and what units cna have them. I'd recomend a couple of S10, (4 glancing, 5+ Pen) S9 just doesn't cut it for me. Rep for whoever tells me what quote this is...

I think a demolisher cannon with plasma cannons would make sense since it is a powerful tank in general and if it scatters it will take out any nearby crons
Unfortunately, the lascannon HWS is about the best options of taking the monolith out as you get atleast 3 chances to take it out per shooting phase. The demolisher is the second best but you got to get that tank up close and that close is dangerous as necrons can teleport through the monolith to get to your tank. Last ditch shot would be a demo charge or sniper rifles (rending).
I have had better luck with the lascannon HWS.
Where the heck did all them guardsmen come from?
Great Wolf! Is that the howl of the 13th?
They will however suffer against the AP1 rule.
Personally I think that bastion breaker shells would be your best bet against it, 48" glancing on 4's and AP1.
IG Best Gen 1st overall of 10 DE 4th overall of 6
Eldar 3rd Overall/Best General of 26--2nd Overall/Best General of 7--1st Overall/Best General of 11
Manticores, Demolishers, Vendettas, LasCannons Teams, Death Strike Missiles, Basilisks & Medusas work best. I Personnally favor Manticores and Vendettas for that task.
A 10x men Psyker Battle Squad can work to. But if the Monolith teleport in the midle of our troops, fire blast weapons is a risky option. I keep my infantry mounted on the Chimeras, try to ignore the Monolith and concetrate on take down the infantry for phase out the Necrons.

most effective units vs monolith are(in my personal order)
1. Manticore-yeah you only get 4 shots, but when you shoot the monolith with d3 blasts and roll a 5-6, thats 3 attempts to hit it, and to damage it, and all shots count as ordinance so its 2d6 pick highest
2.demolisher-if you get close enough, its dead end of story, and a demolisher has the armor to make it!
3. Medusa-if your a WWII fan, you will recognise it as a recreation of a marauder tank hunter, just keep it in cover, to keep it alive, and blast the monolith with your long range demolisher cannon XD
4. vendetta-yea, it may only be str 9 lascannon, but you get 3, if thats not good enough theres also the fact they are twin linked!
personal preference tho, i love the idea of the medusa, being a WWII fan, so thats the best for me, followed by the good ol' demolisher(most reliable unit in the guard codex, i dare you to tell me otherwise!)
Hellhounds are good tanks

Well if the monolith is being played correctly it should be bringing up the rear so most fire from it can be avoided. If the monolith is not near its bulk of warriors, most of the time its best just to ignore it and relocate near the warriors. In either case demolishers have a tough time because of their range and rapid fire warriors can easily stun or shake it. I think vendettas work best because they are twin linked and shots can be taken at a safe distance.
