I'm pretty sure this has been discussed several times before but I'm talking about them WITHIN my army list. I'm planning on it being a VERY Infantry heavy Gunline. Like two full platoons of Guardsmen. So, should I take Deepstriking Stormtroopers or Veterans to do a late game assault on an objective or neither of the two? I'll be using metal Cadian "Kasharkins" models. And yes, I know I spelled it wrong...

Stormtroopers are worthwhile. I've never regretted bringing them along, although their usefulness can vary like most units. The precision deepstrike is an excellent way to open up a crossfire or weaken/distract a unit while some troops run over. If you can use them in conjunction with a psyker squad then you'll see some amazing results. DS the stormies behind a Marine squad camped on an objective, biff their morale with a PBS and cause enough hellgun wounds to force a save they'll fail. The squad will not regroup because the stormies are too close and the carapace armor will help them shrug off the cowardly Marine's return fire if they don't run off the board next turn. Objective 'cleansed'!
Alternatively, use the infiltration option. If it's an objective mission then your opponent will probably want to go second. Infiltrate your Stormies near a vulnerable spot and then use their one-time pin alongside a PBS to take an enemy unit out of the game right at the beginning. (It's usually better to pin then allow then to fall back since otherwise they'll rally right away and not be in the way of other units.) Even if your opponent prevents that by going first, well, in an objective game that's almost worth the squad's value by itself.
I guess I'm keen on having a PBS in an infantry-heavy list along with stromtroopers. Why not? They're like peanut butter and jelly.

I love mine, 5 guys deep striking in with 2 meltaguns and re-rolling scatter. They almost never fail me. I also use another squad of 6 with a plasma gun, they're in my list until I get the valkyrie finished and have proven theemselves over my past few games.
Stormies are a good choice, but don't take more than 6, and only take 5 unless you've got a few extra points and want 6.

I will admit to being a fan of Stormtroopers. Although I may be biased as a result of most of my games being against marines.
I have yet to regret bringing a ten man squad of stormies in a Valkyrie to the party. Usually with a pair of plasmaguns. a copious amount of ap3 and better firepower with the mobility of something very mobile indeed is not to be sneezed at.
Heavy gunline-wise I think this is probably even better. If you can keep your Valkyrie alive (you DO have bigger and more scary looking things for the enemy to shoot at - i.e Leman Russ' and variants therof - right?) so after the stormtroopers have done their thing you can get a squad to an objective in no time at all.

i usually dont deepstrike them(thats for melta vets in a vendetta)
i use my stormtroopers as a "fill in the gap" unit, i use a guard army with no heavy weapons in infantry squads, it constantly moves foward pounding the enemy away, my stormtroopers deal with close range enemy threats, i dont take any special weapons on them, i just wait for a unit to get dangerously close to my lines, and my stormtroopers take the front, hitting the enemy with a nasty close range salvo of ap3 goodness while they are in the open, a regular infantry squad with a simple flamer does the finish up work(if there is any)
long story short, my stormtroopers are my "oh that one got a bit close, drop em!" for enemy units that are nasty and close by

I like Stormies as a deep striking distraction unit. Give 'em plasma and drop them behind something dangerous, then watch as your opponent is forced to choose between getting hot shot in the back or flashlight spammed.

I'd love to use stormies but unfortunately my main opponents aren't MEQs, so I lose effectiveness. Most 3+ save models I fight are MCs, which makes the S3 hampering. Most 4+ models are genestealers which will rip my stormies a new one after one turn of shooting (and at their price that's expensive to only get one turn). Though I suppose I can buy myself a turn if I force them to turn around and engage me, so that could be worth playtesting
I'm the opposite, used to run them regular in my old list as a five man DS with meltas, in the new dex they hurt points wise compared to veterans and I haven't regretted dropping them from my list.
I used to use them, but I have more use from the veterans with meltas and a chimera, I feel like more bang for the buck via veterans.
I used to love storm troopers, but at 16 points a model, that the price for a Black Templar initiate... yeah... but the models are cool, i would take them in 2000 points or more though bc they will be able to make a huge difference then.
I don't play guardsmen (Necrons), but my buddy does, and he claims that Hotshot lasguns are useless because of low strength, that all the AP in the world is nothing when you fail the To Wound roll, is he right, or is it he's just using them wrong?
