So I was looking through my codex and decided on choosing Vulkan as the leader of my Space Marines. I sent in the order and everything so I will be getting him soon and was starting to plan on what my Honor Guard will contain when I discovered that it doesn't state what kind of commander he is.
So I went through the codex trying to find out what he counts as and this is what I found:
On page 131 under the Command Squad listing is says I may choose one for every Chapter Master in your army.
Under Vulkan's listing, it doesn't specifically say that he is a Chapter Master like it does in Pedro Kantor's listing. (top of page 130 )
On page 132 under the Command Squad section, it says that I may take one command squad for every Space Marine Captain in my army (including Sicarius, Lysander, Shadow Captain Shrike, and Kor'sarro Khan). No Vulkan.
His full name is ForgeFather Vulkan He'Stan, and while I am very new to Space Marines I have only seen one other unit like that and that unit is a Master of the Forge. Does that mean that Vulkan counts as a Master of the Forge and I get the benifits of using one in my army? (Dreadnoughts, Venerable Dreadnoughts, and Ironclad Dreadnoughts may be taken as Heavy Support choices as well as Elites choices)
I've looked through this again and again trying to find the answer to this question and have found nothing. Vulkan is under the HQ listing it just doesn't tell me what kind of HQ he counts as.
Can anybody here please help me with this?
Thankyou for your time
Vulkan doesn't get an honor guard, command squad, or such, much like a Chaplain or Librarian.
Space Marines: W15/L7/D3
Imperial Guard: W6/L4/D0
I think they (the people at GW) thought army wide twin linked melta/flamer and master crafted thunder hammers compensated generously for the fact that Vulcan is neither a Chapter master, Captain ,Librarian or Master of the forge. So to answer your question, Vulcan is a "Stand alone" HQ; None of those changes in force organization crap: That's for sissies . Just a lot of liquefied tanks and calcined hordes!

Vulkan He'stan is just a regular HQ with some pretty nice rules.
correction, he is an mildly OP character that has influenced too many SM armies and taken alot of variety out of playing SM lits
Ask me about the Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike!!!
All right. Well thanks everybody! I thought that was how it was gonna end up (Vulkan being a single character that counts as a HQ with no command squad or anyhting like that) but I had hoped that I would be wrong
Thanks for the clarification everybody!
I have played against a list with him, but at least it was the only other Salamanders player in my group.
I won't disagree that he influences a lot of marine lists.
You guys are lucky. Where I play its like Salamander heaven it seems (at least those who field SM) it really gets dull.
Strange. I'm the only player in my area that uses him. Also the only one in my group who uses a Bike Captain for bike troops. Go figure...
I guess it just goes to show, that what you can personally see is likely not an all encompassing reality.
