Ok I saw this thread on the chaos forum and thought it had a place here to. I made this thread to help begginers and veterans alike when constructing compact and efficent hq's without going oveboard and wasting points. The idea is people who have a tested comibnations and who want to share the wisdom post them in the following format,
Name- Henry the otter slayer
equipment- relic blade, artificer armour
points- 145(remember if their are no upgrades you can't post the points cost)
tactics- I run this guy with a combat squad including a power fist sergent and a flamer in a razorback.He's very good for allocating wounds to because of this 2+/4+ save

Ok i'll start it off.
equipment-bike,relic blade,artificer armour
tactics- I use him in a 5 man bike squad with power fist and 2 melta's in order to give them a bit more close combat punch. Keep him away from enemy hq's and power fists ect.

Name- Horatio, Priest of Battle
Equipment- Base + Jump Pack
Tactics- Attach to any squad (pref Assault Marines) and charge the enemy. Excellent for his 'Liturgies of Battle' special rule.
Name- Master of Combat Benedict 3rd.
Rank- Chapter Master
Equipment- Storm bolter, Lightning Claw
Tactics- Drop Orbital Bombardment at the start of turn 1 - at low point games, this will decimate the enemy. Afterwards, attach to a combat squad for extra kick in CC

chapter master, twin lightning claws,artificer armour=170
5 honour guard, relic blade, thunder hammer, razorback=250
master of the forge, conversion beamer=120
My usual choices:
Captain w/ Relic Blade and Combi-Flamer - and one of bike or jump pack.
Bike: he travels around with a bike squad until they get near the enemy, then he splits off to take out some infantry while they deal with a tank or two.
JP: leaps around with a Vanguard Squad (all w/ Storm Shield) and mashes up anything he can reach. Rarely splits off, but is used to take out an enemy HQ while the vanguard annihilate the escorting squad.
Typically I use a standard Chaplain with A) jump pack and meltabombs, or B) Terminator armor.
In the future I'll be using a Captain w/ Relic blade and combi-melta.

Captain Dave on a Bike with a Relic Blade/ Thunder Hammer
The Bike is so I can run my Bike Squads as Troops, the Thunder Hammer is what I've modelled him with and the Relic Blade is what I'm considering swapping it for because the TH is a waste of his I5.
Chapter Master Artificer Armour Auxilary Grenade Lauuncher Storm Shield Relic Blade 210 points. This guy almost never gets his points back, but always proves very entertaining to use. The insane amount of conversion work done on him attracts ll kinds of firepower, he can hold his own in combat against just about any HQ or monstorous creature, and the orbital bombardment has taken out monoliths and other scary enemy goodies on the first turn more times han I can count.
Ask me about the Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike!!!
Can we either stick to the format for suggesting combinations of wargear for heroes that I suggested or someone else suggest a better one so someone wanting a quick read through would'nt have to 'adjust' to each post.
Also if this thread gets going could a mod sticky it plz.
