I've noticed in the codex (5th ed) that you can upgrade the Land Speeders with a Typhoon Missile Launcher or a selection of common weapons, but they're in a "Tornado Pattern" as described by the prices...
Does this mean double the shots? Twin Linked? I know Hurricane Bolter is 3 TL Bolt guns, is Tornado like that also? or just 1 TL? 2 TL? I read cover to cover and I can't find what that means.
Tornado pattern just means when you add a second weapon to it.
A normal landspeeder might have a multi melta
A Tornado pattern landspeeder might have a heavy bolter and a heavy flamer or 2 multi melta's.
so if I take a heavy bolter, I get twin linked? or 6 shots?
you get two heavy bolters.
you can choose to fire one or both.
firing both gives you six shots, but limits your movement as they are both primary weapons.

You get nothing, it's just a name for Landspeeders that have two weapons.
In the previous edition, there were 3 landspeeder variants: the Landspeeder with a heavy bolter or multimelta, the Landspeeder Tornado with an additional assault cannon or heavy flamer and the Landspeeder Typhoon with the additional big missile launcher. In the current Codex, the options were rewritten so you purchased additional weapons as listed instead of upgrading to different variants. Only weapons that are listed as twin-linked actually are; all others are separate weapon systems.

I use two varients all the time:
LS with 2x Heavy Bolters - dirt cheap, whizzes round where ever needed
LS with Typhoon ML (awesome) and HB - good stand off shooter, capable of attacking almost anything
I don't like 24" ranged weapons on LS as they have to get too close
