This recently came up in a game and I wanted to ask how if it was played correctly, as I do not have the SM Codex. I am the Necron player.
Scenario: Deceiver assaults the Khan, both are at I5 so strike simultaneously.
1. Deceiver manages to land 2 hits and 1 of these wound. Both regular and invulnerable saves are ignored, Khan does not have Eternal Warrior and so is removed.
2. Khan strikes back, hitting with 3 attacks. Normally not able to wound T8, the player tells me that on a 6 to wound regardless, I would suffer Instant Death. He rolls a 3, a 5 and a 6. I fail my Invulnerable Save and since C'Tan do not have the Eternal Warrior rule, the Deceiver is removed.
Is this correct?
Essentially, is Khan able to roll dice to wound even though he cannot wound T8 with S4?
According to the SM Codex his weapon wounds and causes ID on any roll to wound of a 6, regardless of toughness. So looks like he was right. Hmm, I think our *gods* need eternal warrior special rule, haha.
Of course, everything else is getting those special rules, so I wouldn't be surprised if any codex update included units with dozens of special rules; if one codex gets it, why shouldn't all the rest? That seems to be GW's philosophy anymore.
Indeed. At first, I didn't question it, but the GW Manager of the store piped up and said that "Khan can only cause Instant Death on a 6 if he's normally able to wound on a 6.". His reasoning was that since S4 cannot wound T8, all 'rolls to wound' would fail regardless. He compared this to say, Gauss Weapons, which always wound on 6 irrespective of toughness.
Store employees tend to be wrong as often as players these days (any days, really) so it's always a good idea to get things they say checked out.
wow that is really useful info
I will have to get him now to play when playing against my friends nec/ctan
