oh god i just used Griffons for the first time, and since i play on a small board, well not really we played width and its 48 inches wide so it was in perfect range. for 75 points a model they did excellent even better then my Basilisks.
We who have seen war will never stop seeing it....In the silence of the night, we will always hear the screams....
My apologies to Tanith Ghosts for using his thread to specifically call this out but I'm just cranky enough to feel the need to try and drag folks kicking and screaming into posting more effectively:
1) Inflammatory Title:
A title such as this may invoke knee-jerk reactions, but it is hardly the foundation for intelligent debate. The fact is, it is lazy and will evoke lazy retorts.
2) Absence of any useful explanations:
The details of the argument: Griffons!, Cheap Points!, Better than a Bassie!
You don't supply points values, the enemy army composition or the actual results of having used them. Shall we all plop a Griffon on the table and wait for our opponent to surrender?
3) Your own argument defeats your premise:
If the board for your example is non-standard, it can hardly be used to support the premise that a unit is overpowered. Run a Khorne Berserker army on a 24" deep table and see the difference in perception about the power of that army... (Hint, assaulting enemies that can't fall back tends to be brutal). Try playing against Tau with Orcs with zero terrain in the neutral zone. Anything can be made OP if you set up the game parameters to that effect.
I know I'm probably coming off as angry (I'll admit I am frustrated) but I'm hoping folks might possibly learn from this. I'm not specifically picking on you, but IG is my home subforum and this post popped out for me.
Anyways, I'm happy you found a new unit to love.
RecklessFable's Journey to Mediocrity (Painting an IG army)
I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
