I'm looking at starting an SM army using the rules for a Deathwing force from the Dark Angels Codex, but using the statlines and rules from the 5e SM Codex in all other regards.
However, I've not played 40k since the new 5e rulebook arrived, and so I'm not sure what products I should buy/how I should configure them. I'm trying to avoid land raiders if at all possible, instead having a force made up exclusively of terminators (with perhaps so dreadnaughts as well, if that's a good idea).
Deathwing can take terminators as troops aslong as you have the Deathwing leader (Belinda) as your HQ so you could take 3 dreadnoughts as elites, and 6 sqauds of terminators as troops. And have Belinda lead them. A force like that will be outnumbered from the start but will be able to take frinkin lot of punishment but would only have 25 storm bolters, 6 assault cannons and 3 lascannons (or what ever you give the dreads) to hit back with. As a Ork and nid player thats not very daunting.
I AM BOOMER!
What I mean is taking the Deathwing FOC options, but using current generic SM statlines. The reason I'm doing this is because I'm not making a Deathwing army, merely an army that is organized in a fashion similar to the Deathwing. I intend to have a character with custom fluff, but with a statline equal to that of Belial leading the company.
If your friendly opponents agree to that, fine, but ruleswise you are not allowed to mix-and-match Codices like that. If you want to use the Deathwing rules (Belial HQ, Terminators as Troops, etc.) then you must use the Deathwing Terminators from the Dark Angels Codex. They do lack some of the advantages of newer Space Marine Codex Terminators, but that's the price you pay.
I'm not likely to be fighting in Tourney battles or anything, so houseruled 5e termies should be fine.
With that said, what should I be buying, product-wise, and how should I be configuring it?
well if your usingcodex marines statlines then you would want to put cyclone missle launchers in all of your squads. the double tap missles do much better then the assault cannon with the new rending rules. a chaplain or libriarian is very usefull too. librarian for a shooting squad and chaplain for a mixed or assault squad. if your refusing to take land raiders then you'll have trouble killing av 13/14. dreads can help this but they take valuable points away from your expensive termie squads. also, what book are you going to use for points and are you taking just the FOC chart from the dark angels or their rules too? like fearless and the ability to mix termie types.
