Embarking on my first IG army! It's gonna be about 1k and closly allied with 1k of Marines. The theme is our boys in Afgan/Iraq, American and British. I'm thinking, a Valkyrie, 2 Paladin tanks as Basilisks, 2 Tiger tanks as Russ's, 20ish gaurd with heavy weapon teamsand some kind of HQ. All in Desert cam ^_^ never done Gaurd before this is asmuch for a fun, good looking display and the force won't see tournaments or many games, just the oddgame here and there againstmy mates (how it should be ^_^) Tornys are stinjy! Don't have the Codex yet and I've never done Gaurd before! Just looking for advice as far converting and stuff is concerened as well as some gaming advice, I always play marines luckily so I just need and anti SM list (Y) Any hints and tips will be greatly apretiated, total noob here! ^_^
well if it's themed on that, take all your support tanks and valks/vendettas in pairs of 2 as that's how they generally operate. and infantry platoons with 3 infantry squads and if mechanized, chimeras operate in groups of 4 which generally works out with the command squad and 3 troop squads. i don't know if i'd really mix the forces together, most tend to operate separately anyways, so would focus more on one military branch, would make more sense at the company level sized force.
also, dunno anything about the brits, but keep in mind that the us army and marines use camo schemes different from each other (army has their grey, marines have their tan).
and marine aavs (chimeras) would still be in jungle camo despite battle tanks being tan (part of the whole amphibious force in readiness thing, they don't get painted desert when they could get rapid redeployed back onto a ship in the ocean going somewhere else.
be diligent to get it all accurate if it's an 'homage'/tribute/whatever otherwise any military-otakus will probably give you a hard time on inconsistencies ...doubt any soldiers/marines will really care if it's messed up though.
It's not realy in homage/tribute if I wanted it to be acurate I wouldn't be using Tiger tanks now would I? Hehe, thanks for the advice though. The colour schemes thing had passed my mind, I'l just do it all desert. Only thing I'm not too sure about painting wise is the Valkyrie. Tanks will be tan like Abrams, Challanger 2 etc. Troops will be Desert Camo. But the realy life Valkyrie/Vendetta equivilants are chinook, black hawks or thunderbolts. All of which are grey/olive. But that would look very wierd.
Another thing that cocerns me is the sie of the guns. The 40k guns all have biug barrals Demolisher cannons etc. I think it would work if I stick to the Tiger, Paladin guns along with Las guns, multi lasers, las cannons and autocannons and stay away from bolters, demolisher cannons, and plasma/melta. Do you think that that is possible, I know you can't read the codex too me like a bed time story :p and I'm gonna get one soon, but do you think I could have an army without those guns? I hope you get what I mean about them looking abit odd if you have Paladin and tiger tank cannons along with plasma and bolters?
I would look a little different as the Tiger and Paladin barrels would be a lot skinner than 40k model barrels, but if your just playing with friends i don't think it really matters.
If money isn't really that big of a deal you could go with the Armagedon pattern Basilisk, from ForgeWorld. It has the same general look of the Paladin just the bigger barrel
Armageddon Pattern Basilisk with Tallarn Tank Commander
We who have seen war will never stop seeing it....In the silence of the night, we will always hear the screams....
I deliberatly chose the Paladin cos it has a big barral, have a look! And money is an issue no Baneblade for me!
