After some comments in a How to Improve LO thread, I came to have a look and while it's not as bad as the Guard boards, there are still some issues. Here's a repeat of what I posted in IG.
Every poll needs a closing date. 30 days is a good number. 365 is not. No closing date doesn't work at all.
Moreover, please make sure your thread would benefit from a poll. One poll had 28 options. You'd need hundreds of voters to get worthwhile results from a poll with 28 options. Other threads don't really need a poll at all. Asking someone if they like A or if they prefer B doesn't accomplish anything that asking the same question without a poll wouldn't.
Polls can clutter a board, or they can be fun and useful. Polls also resurface in people's control panels, leading people to think there's been something useful added when in fact, there was simply a new vote. Please avoid frivolous polls and please use closing dates.
