I was curious as to how other marine players felt about fielding a vindicator. I really like the strength of the cannon but the lack of range and scatter possibility are major downfalls.
what are everyone else's thoughts???
Falco's Marines will Annihilate the foe on swift wings of vengeance!
I would say that fielding a vindicator is almost always a good decision, the armour is decent the tank is cheap, and can pretty well kill anything it fires at. Most of your opponents will be coming towards you so you shouldnt find the range too great of a problem to overcome, and with bs4 it can pretty reliably (not very but decently) be expected to knock at least a few models off of a unit, while if your concerned about scatter I would advise not using it as a tank hunter. Hey even if it doesnt work out well for you, look at your HQ section, the tank is only as expensive as a captain with a power weapon, and I think I know what Id rather field.
Ask me about the Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike!!!
I will tell you that, as with most units that present a major threat, it is ALWAYS a good idea to field them in duplicates. If you have one super-dangerous unit on the field, your opponent will focus on it and quickly destroy it. But if you have two, or even three, it becomes far more difficult to eliminate them before they cause tremendous damage. What I'm trying to say is, if you think you are going to take one, try to take at least two.

I didn't feel all too well about fielding a Vindicator back in 4th edition. But it's cheaper now, comes with free upgrades (though extra armour is expensive) and has the option of a siege shield (is that what it's called in English?). Since in 5th edition vehicles are tougher (against closed vehicles glancing hits -unless with AP1 weapons or tank hunters- can't kill anymore and vehicles can get cover saves to completely avoid penetrating and glancing hits, not just downgrade penetrating ones to glancing) and blast weapons more reliable (they don't need to roll to hit and the scatter is not reduced by BS) you can't possibly do much wrong. With that siege shield you have an effective range of 30" and you can boost 12" through any terrain if need be. Awesome!
The Vindicator can really dish it out. Of course it's a priority target and you may get unlucky and have your precious tank killed before it may even make it's first move, but hey - that probably means other parts of your army survived instead that might have died from that shot if it weren't for the heroic Vindicator. It's not a bad thing to field, really.
I really like the Vindicator. It's a high threat tank and works well with other threatening tanks such as a Land raider, or paired with another Vindicator or two. If you have heavy armor like that having multiples can be a very good thing. Besides, even if the large pie plate scatters you're bound to wreck something so why not have two or more?

Vindies rock. Get 3 of them if you can. Next to Witch Hunter Exorcists and Tau Railheads, they're probably some of the best heavies for the price. And if you really want to give your opponent a hard time, also get 5x assault termies in a LR Redeemer and 2 tact squads in Razorbacks. That's a lot of armor with dangerous weapons on them for him to deal with.
I love taking Vindicators and a LR full of TH/SS terminators, the look of confusion on your opponents face is priceless
Personally I'd kill the LR first, but for some reason having a Vindicator wipe out a Terminator squad in one hit sticks in their minds... lol
Agreed - Vindi's are great! Tough, extremely mobile with the Siege Shield, and powerful enough to wreck anyone's day. To top it all off, they're fairly cheap!
They do have a relatively short range, but look at it like this: on a 4' by 4' table, one of them in the middle can shoot almost anywhere! You've just got to be brave enough to get them stuck in close... Go big or go home!
Hehe, and on the subject of Vindicators, I have four of the buggers in case Apocalypse calls! Though I've yet to use them. But soon I will make a tri-pie list. People can handle one big threat, but they won't know what to do when it hits them threefold.
