PCompany Command Squad
I was just curious as to what people use in their Mechanized list for their HQ.
CCS take a bit of a usefulness hit as they aren't going to be issuing orders as often as they would in an Infantry list. They still can take some nice guns and a transport however, becoming a small Veteran unit.
A Primaris Psyker can give some nice anti-horde support and fits into any transport you're likely to be running. He's cheaper than a CCS but less flexible.
Lord Commissars can provide a bit of CC support, although they aren't very hardy. The Ld10 bubble means if you keep your army together he may prevent some running if you have to disembark. Also pretty cheap.
So what do you like to use and why?
When i first started playing my mech list i went with a CSS, I liked it at first but then started thinking that since my whole army is in transports, it would be better to take the points from a CSS and put them into a Psyker and a Psyker Battle Squad in a chimera....this is a very effective unit, and its fantastic for causing panic checks.
That does seem much more mech style. Nice one.
Primaris, without a doubt.
While i love the idea of a Lord Commissar they just ain't that great for the points, especially when everyone is in transports and since most full mech armies are essentially Vets heavy you wouldn't get much benefits from it...
Company command squads are great, indeed. But unless kept cheap and used as a 5 (before advisors) man Special weapon veteran chimera squad they won't be anything very useful that you couldn't get for cheaper elsewhere. (Orders are a bit pointless in mech armies)
While the Primaris is cheap, can tag along with whichever squad you decide and provide a fairly nice anti-horde/transport punch (an average of 7 S6 shots at BS 4 at usual 10 of armour value of transports will hurt a fair bit.), in some cases his other power might be useful, tho a bit unreliable, if he can't possibly get in range of something to shootthat turn... (Much more likely if you have any leadership reducer around.)
I also didn't know until recently he has a Force Weapon, never really looked at their equipment just the powers. That seems like there's potential for hilarity. :]
A S3 Force Weapon won't do all that much, especially since the Primaris will probably have use either ones of it's powers if it wasn't already engaged in close combat, but on the rare occasion where it will, indeed, it will be hilarious.
Probably more so than a single guardman holding against and running down a full squad of terminators. Maybe.
But, hey, any extra bonuses on top of it's already high usefulness is great!
Yeah I didn't mean it was like YEAH FORCE WEAPON just the possible beginning to one of those "You won't believe what this guy killed" stories.
It depends on how you want to play it. If you want to have fun with the primaris psyker then go for it. If you're doing a stationary tank heavy gunline then you could go with a "basilisk" command squad and go for a MoO in a chimera. Or you could do one of my favourite tricks and pimp out a chimera with a commissar lord in it. A chimera all to himself!

Both the Primaris and the CCS are very good choices. I'm leaning towards CCS because currently it's the best way to deliver a totally ridiculous amount of special weapons in a Chimera. Try four BS4 rapid firing plasma guns and a plasma pistol. 9 plasma shots, 3 multilaser shots, and probably 3 heavy bolter shots coming from a single transport. The plasma alone will on average kill a healthy carnifex every turn.
Especially if you REALLY wanted something dead and hopped out for the order.
