I just got back from buying the Ravenwing Box set since it was more cost effective to buy that than the bikes I was after and I am curious as to what the best way to use bikes is with a Black Templar army. I'll do the basic requirements (file off DA icons etc) but when it comes to actual equipment setupand the like, I don't know what to give them. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a good build for them? I have 6 normal bikes and a Assault bike as well.
If I have read all the rules for them properly I think I might try with this set up:
2x Initiate Bikers
3x Initiate Bikers with Flamers
1x Attack Bike with Heavy Bolter
Everyone gets Krak Grenades
Total Points - 225
It's basically set up to handle loads of infantry. Way I see it, the group turbo boosts as far as necessary to gain the 3+ cover save (should someone blast it with some low AP weaponary) then next turn unleash 3 flamer templates on whatever squad it's aiming at (I'm thinking uge Ork mobs here, take that KFF!). The Heavy bolter comes as standard for the attack bike and can be used should the target be a bit tougher to crack. The normal bikes use their bolters to make up numbers. The Krak Grenades are there to provide some kind of danger to the generic AV 10 of most vehicles.
I'd use this setup to primarily to zoom up to high risk targets that can threaten my slower moving squads (most of my initiates are on foot, I only have a LRC and Drop Pod as troop carriers) and blast them to hell and back. Should the need arise where I have to assault, I can rely on their SM T and Sv and (I think) they would benefit from the Preferred Enemy from "Accept the Challenge" as well assuming I actually don't rip apart whatever I'm shooting at beforehand.
Any comments or criticisms from my plan? This is the first time I've considered using Bikers in any of my armies. I do have some Guardian Jetbikes for my Eldar, but their design is entirely different.
I've never actually thought of bikes as a good option myself, but I'll follow this and see how they work for you. In fact, for Biker Flamers plan may be quite good...

i was thinking about purchasing that box myself, does it come with all the options for the units? for just what you see on the box? i would personally use them for AT with meltaguns, multi-melta and power fist. how ever that flamer thing sounds like a lot of fun

The best use ive had for my bikers is to use them as an anti-tank unit, 3 meltaguns put fear into any foe who uses alot of tanks, or even just taking out high T targets. The 3 flamer idea doesnt sound to bad either from the looks of it, just be ready when the enemy sees your 3 meltagun bike squad they might draw alot of fire.

Depends on the rest of your army, but I found melta guns works really well since you can assault any unit that gets out of the wreck now. As said though they are a target if you don't have other scary units out. I found that some tank hunting duel assault cannon terminator units work well with the biker unit as the opponent wont know which to go for first. This also let me just footslog all my infantry without taking much fire on them as the terminator / bikes get it first.

The box seems to come with generic Biker sprues. The bike sprues themselves have nothing but the marine, his bike and the TL Bolters. The Attack bike comes with Bolter, Heavy Bolter and Multi Melta. What is quite handy though is that there are 3 sprues of DA related bits. Most will be quite useless unless you're playing Dark Angels, but it does come with some backs which I can use to make more Space Marines. Weapons on those sprues include 2 Power weapons(making 6 in total), 2 Assault Cannons (again making 6) and the missle pods for the Land Speeder. I was hoping it would come with a Heavy Flamer as well, but doesn't look like it. Want to make my Landspeeder AT with a multi Melta and Heavy Flamer for those situations when I need to burn stuff.
