Basically, I'm starting this thread to get some insight as to which terminators have the most to offer. My choices are between Terminators, Close Combat Terminators and Grey Knight Terminators. I've read through what each type has to offer but I'm not sure which ones to use in my 1500 point list. Basically it consist of 2 tactical squads with rhinos, a Chaplain, Land Raider Crusader, and 2 Dreadnoughts in drop pods. Which type of terminator would most benefit my list?
I'd go for the all TH/SS or a mix of TH/SS + LC Terminators and throw them into the LRC. Heavy hitting CC with a 2+/3++ save is nice. Attach the Chaplain to them and they're even more formidable.

4th edition was the edition of shooty terminators. Cheap assault cannons with better rending - two of them in five men squads, if you wanted. Storm bolters for the rest. Their power fists could match the thunder hammers while the storm shield only provided a 4+ save and only in close combat too.
So you would definitely want the shooty ones which where practically as assaulty as the others but quite capable of killing anything and everything at distance too. But that's past.
Now the shooty ones haven't gotten worse: only one assault cannon with less effective rending rules (though still a very very formidable weapon never to be underestimated) and at higher cost. But they can still deal a lot of damage and are still a viable option.
The new assault terminators though have the best saves in the game, keeping them alive for as long as it gets. They can deal quite a lot of damage all the while, and they're faster because they can run. With Shrike they can even infiltrate and fleet! In combination with land raiders they are a large part of your army but can be worth it.
Grey Knight terminators can be a good alternative if you play daemons. But I don't like the idea of using allies too much. We don't need any help, we can deal with anything ourselves...
Assault Termies are very good, specially if you give three of them Shield and Hammer and keep two with dual Claws. As for shooty termies, I'd go for a Missile Launcher over the Assault Cannon. That way you can deal out either two S8 AP3 shots for big things and vehicles, or two S4 area shots against hordes.
I'owith the GKTs they have stormbolters and relic blades, and they can even pack a psychic hood if you want. Besides that extra point of WS is enough to get hits on 3+ against most armies out there, plus S6 is enough to instant kill eldar, DE, guard, etherials, and enough to put some pain on the rear armour of vehicles. Besides they have a fair chance of wounding MCs (carnifexes on 4's, or 5s if they get the upgrade) while using their I to strike first.

That's all I have to say, really.
For me Grey Knight Terminators are invaluable and can really give an army an added punch, but as not only the models are pretty expensive in cash and points. I would take a 5 man squad and really take my time to paint them- models that cool demand extra time and effort.
