Hey guys, I am going to be playing a few 40k games this weekend, and I was thinking about using my Basilisk as a proxy for a Colossus, before I buy it. I was just wondering what you guy's opinions were on the Colossus and what results you guy's have had in games with them.
Thanks for the input.
AP3 cover ignoring pie plate, what's not to like?
Knock bad guys out of transports, then nuke them. Much better than a Crapalisk

I'll have to disagree with ==Me== on this one. Most cover will be ignored by a basalisk with it's indirect fire, and bassies can even fire directly with a higher strength than a colossus. Barrage weapons ignore most cover unless it's between the hole of the template and the model hit and with ==his== example of poping a transport then hitting the guys who pour out they will most likely be relatively in the open. Plus it instant kills marine characters.

I WANNA GET STUCK IN WIT DA BOYZ
What about the heavy weapon squads that are in cover? The colossus is the king of our artillery in my opinion.
I used to run with medusas. Then one day I decided to try out the colossus and have never looked back since. It sucks when you fire your medusa shot at a squad in cover and hit almost the entire squad, but only kill 1 due to cover. So far my collosi have not disappointed, except the one time I played against Ravenguards and was charged on turn 1 with Shrike + assault squad.
Against MEQ's, the collosus is #1.
Ive run a collosus in the last several games that ive played and have had great success with it ,its good to know that it can reach anywhere on the board and nothing can hide from it, ive decided to try running dual griffions in its place for a whille and see how this works out , I have a feeling it may be more all-commer friendly due to accuracy and no# of wounds.
If he persists, put a metal dreadnought in a sock and hit him once with it. Keep it within reach during your next game.
When fighting Guard, most Marine players like to leave one lonely unit on their home objective (typically a camo-scout unit) and then send everything else in a giant bum's rush. With a Colossus, however, they dare not do that--one direct hit and their objective is cleared. They end up having to leave several units back or even a Rhino & squad, which breaks up the momentum of their headlong charge. Colossi (sp?) even have the ability to break a Rhino, thanks to its still counting as ordnance and ignoring those silly smoke launchers.
They're also good against non-MEQs, most of whom have come to depend heavily on their cover saves. Eldar Pathfinders with 2+ saves? Dead. Enemy heavy weapon teams, or swarms? Instant death, no cover. Lots of landspeeders, bikes or jetbikes? Broken toys. ANYTHING that's not a battle tank will die to the Colossus. I am never going back to the Basilisk--the MEQ players at my shop talk about the Colossus in voices more usually reseved for decked-out Eldar Falcons.Remember that the Basilisk still has the direct-fire option. The Colossus doesn't, but since its main job is shelling enemy objectives it hardly matters to me.Plus it has a foot shorter minimum range

The only thing that worries me is the price tag, an outflanking tankhunter unit will destroy it as easily as a Griffon, and I can get almost 2 Griffons for the price of one Colossus.
The name and AP though... its going to be hard to pass up.
Speaking of artillery, are they going to release plastic models for the Medusa, Griffon and Colossus?
