Right, so i just started playing the 5th ed IG here's the list
Cmm Squad --------50pts
2 melta -----------15pts
1 rocketlauncher -----20pts
Chimera transfor (Multilaser / HFlamer) -----55pts
2x Veterans -----140 pts
6x melta-guns -----60pts
Valkyrie - basic --100pts
Vendetta - basic ---130pts
2x Medusa with bastion breacher shells ------- 280pts
1x basic battle cannon russ ----- 150pts
TOTAL: 1k points
there you have it, 6 vehicles in a 1k army. I went against
Eldar: 1 win: wipe out half his troops in turn 1
Tyranids: 3 wins: 1 losses 1 draw
SM: 1 loss: but he was scared, only left 1 troop (won by technicality - turn ended on 5 with a roll of 2)
Ork: 1 win : close match won by 1 victory point.
my tactics was just blast them from a far and flank em with my 2 birds. some troops became suicidal as i just drop them next to their main tanks... I mean 3 melta guns up close... I'm sure I'd blow any amour up. but melta guns for me is a 'for sure kill' either that or to take out any units that comes too close (e.g. snikroits or flankers), most of them are crowd control - and for blasting tanks from afar - the vendetta is awesome if that fails, I have my medusa's bastion breacher... that breaks anything.
I'd usually kite a squad of vets out... just to break their army up... cus the birds are fire magnets... so i'd usually spread them out, depending on situations i'd use my vets as bait...but I always keep 1 squad close to the main tanks...
All tanks has Hflamers, so that would defend itself against any CC.
All opponents I went against, all went home scared even though they won. All called IG cheese .... i dunno maybe Im just lucky....
so what's your IG story?
I'm surprised you have enough shots there to take out half an army on the first turn, especially if you outflank the aircraft.
i was surprised myself
basically what he did was he deployed too close to table edge. one blast - few died, lost 25% casuality and failed morale - ran 2D6 and off the table.
I'd call that luck - at least for myself -
the emperor protects? lol
i forgot - he was playing a really weird build for eldar, if i can recall,
something like that...
Well both your medusa's fire directly so your opponent should have line of sight on them and they probally should have been destroyed first turn agaisnt your opponent with shooting, if your opponents put all their heavy weapons on the leman russ well they didn't pick their fights well enought. Still the list really isn't anything to brag about. it has serious issues if your tropps get killed or if you were to face a list with alot of troop based heavy weapons.
Isn't That Just Peachey
Ask me about the Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike!!!
how skilled were your opponents and were their lists competitive and/or balanced?
Because i did a sm cheese list in 500 points and i had to check if it was atechincally a cheese list, because i played some good players and some bad ones.
My list had the same results game wise and psycologically.
So you had one Russ, one Chimera and two Basilisk-chassis sitting in the open at the start of the game? That's hardly a cheese list; just another melta-spam list in my book. I suppose it works if you get the top of turn 1 and you get good results on reserves rolls, or maybe if your opponent simply has insufficant ranged attack, because I seriously doubt your list's ability to hold an objective. The games against Orks and Marines were very close, the Eldar player had both bad luck and a mediocre list and...how did you beat Orks at kill points, anyway? They would've had about 4 KPs to your 8-9.
Anyway, I don't see that as a cheese list.
"My tanks have names, my men have numbers." -Col. Edmund Grahvess, 23rd Kronecker Prison Guard
I must admit, most of the players I play with are intermediate players...
Sir_deathslayer is right, if i'm agaisnt a list of Hv Weapons guys then I'd be in trouble, like when i went against the nids. if I recall - fex with enhanced senses with 4 shots of venom cannon, and same weapons with the hive tyrant - bam! glanced me to death. and swarmed me over with genes
This list is however strong if I get the initiative. if not, I'd use my birds as outflanking. then again, its not the best, but it works darn well for me again maybe I'm just lucky with the scatter.
Against Orks: this dude was a veteran, it was a close call
his build was...
2 battle wagons with rolla stuffed with boys (can't remember how many)
a group of commandos along with a snikrot..
oh yea, one dude has custom forcefield (CF) so his vechle's benifit from a 4+ cover and troops get 5+
I managed to seize initiative
Vendetta blew up 1 wagon from the side - wreck
surprisingly when his boys disembarked into a crater he had really good cover saves against my 1st round of blasts... I had my medusa blast everything only 3 orks died battle cannon from russ took out 1 ork -_-" really good saves
the valkaryie flanked the other tank.. hopeing they'd seperate so I can draw the guy with the CF away from the other tank. it did, he moved tried to assault me but was short of 3 inches.
Ork turn tried to fire rokets at my valkaryie from one squad and the other to the vendetta - either missed or no damange done.
IG: 1 victory point from the battlewagon
***snikrot failed to enter game
i moved my units closer to the center away from the edges... u know what snikrots can do :p I fired more blasts... and again, his saves were amazing... only a few died...
this time, on the valks side, i disembarked my vets.... and the pilot waved goodbye.... moved my vets in to take out the BW that came close - the 3 meltaguns did what they were meant to do, too it out and it exploded killing a few orks in the process
1 squad remained near the chimera, russ and the medusas. they were behind, just incase the snikrot jumps me from behind and attack my tanks. they were used as cushions. the russ was taking front, the chimera right (next to a terrain) and the medusa was on the left clear sight of the camping orks. the vendetta flew in the center of the squad...
camping orks remained camping... as they were too far away from the medusa though he moved a head to gain some ground (he was planning to waggh! - thats the only way he can if he wants to touch me) the other squad, assaulted the group that disembarked from the valk. they were as good as goners. though i mange to take out 1 or 2 ... can't remember. the consolidated closer to my chimera.
IG: Victory point 2 - the other battlewagon from the meltaguns
Orks: Veteran squad 1 point
snikrots came in
I continued blasting... but orks had amazing saves... I was dumbfounded.
snikrot and comandos flanked my medusa - manage to assault it and took out one - waaged of course.
the camping group of orks got lucky and one rocket blew my vendetta and exploded... the blast killed 3 vets failed morale and started to run -_-"
my command squad tried shooting the consolidated orks but again, their cover saves were good.
Orks gain 1 point from Vendetta
I moved my russ and medusa... 2nd medusa had its main weapon destroyed. so its only equiped with the flamer. Positioned it to point at the snikrots and the incoming camping group of orks... the valk had already used up its hellfurys... so i'm only stuck with the multilasers
anyway - the medusa flamed the snikrots and killed a number... ork failed leadership and ran though the medusa is clearly close enough for the camping group to assault in
Ork's turn: Camping ork rushed in for the assault and the other group slowly moved in - the medusa blew up and took out a few orks in the process
Orks gain another 1 point from the medusas.
My russ turn and positioned itself so i could flame the remaining camping orks and the running snikrot. I took out the snikrot. leaving 1 or 2 orks from the group that took out the 2nd medusa.
Chimera moved, opened its hatched and finsihed the remaninig orks with the meltas.... overkill i know.
IG gain 2 points - from snikrot / commandos and the camping orks.
Game Turn 6 ended on a roll of 2
end result : IG 4KPs Orks 3KPs gg
I'm not that good at reports.. just event highlights.
I don't think you should be taking Medusas with bastion-breachers. It's small blast for chrissakes! And it requires you to be out in the open! The only reason to go breachers is to hunt vehicles, but it reduces your horde-fighting ability significantly. The standard Medusa round is good enough vs vehicles. Stick with it.
Or just don't take Medusas at all. There's much better artillery.
