SO, after recently getting back into the hobby after a 15 or so year break, I have just put together a guard army I am mildly pleased with and thought I would start a new army which I could start off allligned and build up. My initial two thoughts were demon hunter or witch hunters. so vote, which should be my next army?
I'm thinking about taking terminators with my sisters allied with IG. Currently I have a HQ+retinue (celestian), 2 troops in rhinos, and seraphrims.
A couple of sister squads compliment a IG army I feel. However, its up to your own "ethics" which units you think should be allowed to ally with IG.
Transports are the way to go these days, although I prefered foot-slogging, I have caved in to using rhinos.
I like a WH list with Inducted IG. Termies are shiny but require a Land Raider to not die horribly, while WH and IG mesh wonderfully.
I think you should start whatever you think you will have the most fun playing, or the models that you enjoy the most.
It is all really up to you..
We all like the WH armies, otherwise we wouldn't be in here..
I like both and I can't choose. If I ask for arguements from both sides as to why I should choose their army I might discover a reason for which to deciide. I have already learned that each codex is pretty old etc. Keep it coming.
GK Termies are good in CC but must have a Land Raider, if they walk or teleport they die. Regular GKs aren't that great in CC and are overpriced.
SoB mechanize well, really hurt hordes and can give IG some tougher units to hold objectives. They can also boost their Ld with a Book of St Lucius, which I find handy. Also let's you take Exorcists so you don't have to waste Lascannons on MCs and you don't really need Plasma as much.
DH have better units to ally into an IG army.
WH are more solid as an army in their own right.
I realised that I am not even sure what the allied rules are. Will have to pop into a store and check them out in a codex. I saw the new guard FAQ have a few things to say though.
SM and Guard into WH or DH is strictly limited and the units available are listed in the codex
