Out of curiosity what type of airship do your prefer? Personally I run vendettas but I am curious as to what the rest of the guard community thinks.
Joe Peshi (lone wolf) kill tally:Lash Sorcerer, Ghazkull, Yriel, Termi Libby, Vulkan.
Vendetta if I need a gunship or the basic valk no upgrades if I need a transport.
i generally like the vendetta because outflanking anti vehicle can be quite deadly.
I like the Vendetta because the Lascannons are my best way to drop MCs and it can get behind armor and hit the rear. Very useful.
i never leave home to fight nids or orks without my valkryie with multiple missile pods, heavy bolters and multilaser, but every other time i prefer the vendetta, so ideally run both, but for the majority of armies i find the vendetta is what you want, take the heavy bolters (10 points each is a steal) and this way even if you have a hoarde army you have 6 heavy bolter 3 lascannon shots to fire each turn (just move 6 inches)
I'm not a big HB fan. On a Vendetta they don't go with any targets I'm shooting at, like armor and MCs. On a Valk, well 2 pie plates and a Multi laser is plenty for me. I have better uses for the points myself.
i have the same opinions as the prince of excess himself ^^
Depends on my opponent. If I know I'm up against a horde I'll take the Valkyrie. If I know my opponent is running mech then they get switched for Vendettas.
If I don't know what I'm going to face I'll default to the Vendetta as it will most likely be the better choice. The beauty is that they both the Valkyrie (plus pods) and the Vendetta cost the same so it doesn't require any reworking of my standard list.
I voted Vendetta as well, as it does help me against the majority of my opponents. A Valk w/ rocket pods is no slouch, but the lascannons just help me more often.
My only issue with the vendetta is that I find myself more reluctant to move large distances since I want to fire those three lascannon shots. I often wonder if I'm shooting myself in the foot with my transported vets and not getting them where they need to be. It usually works out but just something I've noticed.
That's why you take both if you can. The Valk flies around and drops Vets off while firing and the Vendetta hunts with Lascannons but can still drop Vets if they need too. Very versatile.
