do they still only give a 4+ inv save? or are they improved as the standard space marine ones have been? because if they haven't that would make the assault terminators of vanilla/ultra marine armies more powerful than their counterparts in an assault oriented army
Yep; they give you a 4++ save in close combat only, as opposed to the passive 3++ save ordinary Marines get, so a Termie with a SS would need to use his 5++ save against AP1-2 shooting and a model in power armour with an SS wouldn't get one at all.
It doesn't make sense fluff-wise, but then again the game isn't governed by fluff.
true, it's somewhat of a flaw with giving individual marine chapters their own codex, if they do things like this the least they should do is release an update for the other chapters, even if it is just for certain units lol.
True. They won't, though. Consider it a symptom of GW's disinterest in it's own game systems; they know they don't particularly need to keep the rules sharp to sell models, so they don't bother.
But IMHO there should be nothing that prevents us from changing the codizes for ourselves. I mean Storm Shields for Space Marines changed without change in price for those models. So why not just say other codizes get the same "new" Storm Shield. Same for new prices, Rhinos cost xx pts. now, why not changing prices for other codizes as well? As long as everything is balanced and everything is logical ...
I really don't care for tournaments.
yeah, problem is i play in a gw where they can be gits about such things (as most gw are in my experience, probably something to do with them being a 30 year old who works in a model shop)
Ask me about the Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike!!!
i agree with this, but they do need to keep codex's updated to new rules so you're not stuck in the past with outdated tactics.
So in the example given (AP1-2 shooting) a terminator would only get their 5+ save and a marine in power armour would get none while using the old storm shield..
You dont really need that bonus to be effective. You have one of the best codex's out there. You can still give your terminators veteran skills, and everyone in your army gets preferred enemy. Have S5 lightning claws with re-rolls to hit and wound is sick.
