they are fairly similar in most things, weapon loadout, cost, speed, even defences to some extent, and the slot on the force organisation chart they occupy.
which one do you all go for? personally i run a single land speeder with 2 multi meltas, then deep strike it behind the enemies tanks
Depends very much upon the mission and rest of the army.
Speeders can deep-strike and move flat out over terrain, meaning they are somewhat faster or can move further. They can also choose from a wider range of weapon mounts.
Attack bikes in return tend to be a little less fragile (aren't targeted as much and can get obscured by terrain easier, get a better cover save when moving fast, etc) and can (if you're very desperate) tie up an enemy squad in close combat.
The prices vary largely.
You want two heavy bolters? A single speeder could do that for very little points, but he could only fire both if he moved 6" or less a turn - which is possible with the far-ranged heavy bolters. The bikes can move 12" and shoot, and they come with a twin-linked bolter for every heavy bolter.
You want two multi-meltas? A single landspeeder with two is cheaper, but he can only fire one if he moves more than 6" or deep-strikes. If you take two speeders with a single multi-melta they cost more than the attack bikes. Etc...
I use both frequently, depending on what else I run in my list. If the list has many vehicles I prefer landspeeders, if the list has few I prefer attack bikes, in hopes of producing an overload of targets for specific enemy weapon types (anti-vehicle weaponry, for example).
Attack bikes are generally the better option gamewise, but the Land speeder is a cracking model. Never seen one with two multimeltas though. Appearence wise i'll stick to the now nerfed assault cannon mounted underneath. If you're using speeders the cyclone missile launcher is a very good choice.
Jager bombs. Very efficient at wiping out friend or foe.
I find that land speeders fit my army better. Also, since I've used them prior to bikes I got comfortable with them. I do think they are harder to keep alive, but with the right balance of units, they often have time to do their job with bonuses.
