Yes, Sternguard would kick arse against those opponents - not only the different ammo types, but also their ability to get all manner of combi weapons.

They have a strong argument for best unit in the codex. You will be hard pressed to find an opponent that they arn't suited to combat. Keep them from CC and you will be happy with what they can do for you.

Against those opponents Sternguard would definitely be worth it.

With the multi-ammo capability, you can use the low AP rounds against the traitor marines. And you can use the cover ignoring ammo against the guard, who will most likely be dug in somewhere due to their low armor.

Make sure they have a transport and Combi-Meltas. Some like Flamers, I say Melta because the special ammo deals with everything else.

Yes would be the answer we are all looking for. ;-)

Sternguard are so very good I'm about to make ten more. I'm aiming to have thirty eventually. I can't think of many games over 1500pts when I haven't fielded ten.

Yup they're probably the best swiss army knife unit the marines have to offer. Point and make anything die horribly...

I love the fact they can take heavy flamers too. Guaranteed 25% more death vs hordes!
