obviously im slightly bored this morning but i was thinking how good would a command squad on bikes be with 4x melta guns and 4xcombi weapons obviously flamer or plasma for a bit of horde redundancy thrown in would itbe cheese or competitive or just poo to be honest it comes in shy of 300 points so not to expensive really??
what u think?
Go for 4 plasma guns as the medic helps out with the overheating. Bikes are also relentless so you can rappidfire and assault in the same turn. Adding stormshelds and lightening claws too can really tool them up but the cost soon mounts up.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
The cool thing about command squads is that they get the extra attack, even if mounted on bikes. If you replace either chain sword or bolt pistol with something that can't be used as a close combat weapon you're losing that advantage over normal bikes.
But if you do anyway, it's a neat idea to replace both weapons with something else - your unit seems a little overkill though.
Your unit is doomed when it gets charged and it's only five guys. Easy enough I could get double that for the price. You've got absolutely no meatshields. You'll want to keep the apothecary, so you'll lose a melta and a combi weapon every time you lose a model.
Four melta guns is a little overkill anyway. Three are pretty much reliable to kill a tank, and plasma is better for killing monstrous creatures and MEQ and such, especially since you are relentless and have feel no pain, cutting your chance to kill yourself to half.
Well, there's a lot to weigh off. In the end I would say this unit is neither cheese nor competitive, but not total poo either.
It can probably be fun, but it's just plainly too expensive for my taste and I don't see it accomplishing anything two bikes (4 bikes, attack bike, 2 special weapons (melta, plasma, flamer, all are good), power fist on the seargent) couldn't accomplish in their place. The latter are more durable, have more firepower, can lose guys without directly affecting their combat effectiveness and can be scoring, and are a lot better in close combat.
in my defense i do have these really random thoughts whilst looking after my kids it just occured to me you could do it if u wanted to i just wanted to see peoples thoughts on it. not that i would take them as i would either have to buy some more bikes and the Gf wont let me or i woould have to take apart my 3melta/FL L/c and S/S command squad which i really like u can probably expect a few more random posts like this one . i suppose it gets people thinking though instead of doin what everyone else does there is plethora of different combos that dont seem apparnt at first(ignore mty spelling)
A little brainstorming can never hurt!
Too bad your gf won't let you buy more stuff. But in friendly games you could probably make your command squad a "counts as", especially if all the models get the same equipment - that's pretty easy to remember for your opponent.
I've played with the plasmagun/stormshield combo before, as well as plasmagun/lightning claw - both are a lot of fun and kick some serious arse but you need to be very careful with your placing as one unexpected charge from a large unit and you're boned.
cant really complain with xmas coming up i had thought of that but at the moment she is my main opponent so ifi beg she might let me count as lol its so bad not bein the boss
It's like *proudly* "I am Brother-Captain Archer, commander of the Gold flotilla, hero of the chapter, savior of humanity! I am superhuman, my enhanced brains have out-thought many an enemy commander, my mighty fists crushed many a xeno, by my hands have been purged many a traitor. My weapons bring destruction to entire worlds, at my commands planets are turned into wastelands of ash. The fate of entire populations is at my whim-"
- "Shut up and do the dishes!"
*meekly* "Okay, dear..."
so true so very true
Boy am I glad I don't have that problem
I find the trick is to let the pretty lady make all the small decisions, so if I put my foot down about something I care about she's so surprised I get away with it.
